Not hating on nwp vias delete.... but..

Extremely easy to make one outta the stock plate that I had. I'm not trying to hate on them by any means they make EXCELLENT mods for our cars. But I simply cutt of the vias and left the plate, and had the hole welded.... car runs great and I do feel the higher rpm pull especially in first gear that gave me pretty good wheel hop(not a good thing) that I didn't experience before....

The plate just looks pretty and replaces all the hardware so you can return it to stock should you want to. Worth 36 bucks imo.

I don't think you're hating. Simple mod. Good for you.

Kind of gutsy to do something irreversible.

I figured the $40 was worth the hassle of making my own plate (like knight) did or some way plugging the hole in the stock plate.

I tried welding the hole and ended up ruining the original plate. But I'm a tool and die maker and I make things. So I made my own. Now I just have to save up the money for a new tune. I might pop this on to see if it actaully messes with my current tune or not. Waiting for a warm day though. LOL

Exactly, I was extremely worried something would go bad and i'd be screwed and have to wait a week to order a offical nwp vias delete than instal, but nope. Everything went well the first time

Hacking things up? I simply cut the butterfly out, and plugged the hole? I didn't think that's ghetto if I decided to simply save myself 40bucks on something that took me 15minutes to do. But if you like spending the money on something you could do yourself, why not?

Oh, come on. A rag, some elbow-grease, and a little paint. That's the only thing separating your ugly engine [bay] from a clean one. It's not hard. You just need to invest a little pride.

so wait.. did you just remove the butterfly? what about the metal that surrounds the butterfly? did you cut that out ?..

there would be a big difference in airflow in butterfly removed with metal around it vs a flat plate..

hope that makes sense

I really need to take practice in this. The only shiny thing under the hood now is my headers

The DIY block plate is a lot like the GAB. There are some people who bought intakes and some people who made their own. Some people bought stuff from NWP and some people modded the existing equipment. No problems with either.

Isn't that how it is with pretty much any mod? If you can fabricate it yourself, go right ahead! I know you're not hating, just saying it's something you can do yourself; but with almost everything, it's personal choice on whether you want to spend primarily time(self-made) or money(purchased) and possibly have it look more professional.

You can be on whatever side you want:
- I've got money so I'm gonna buy it, no questions asked
- I've got time so I'm gonna make it
- I've got a lot of time so I'm gonna learn how to make it
- I get satisfaction out of making it myself, even though I have a lot of money or little time.
- Not worth the time when I can just buy it, even though I have little money or a lot of time

Again, the biggest selling point for the block off plate is that you can return to stock in 5 minutes and 0 money spent. Many people like to have stock equipment for "just incase" situations.

To make it simple, I made my plate look similar to the nwp one. And plugged the hole.

True. That's what made me worry about making sure I got it right the first time around.

homemade block off plates have been around for a long time.

NWP's plate is pretty affordable and is more of a "dress up functional item"

It's like buying a nismo oil cap, what will the nismo cap do that your plastic one can't?

If it is made of metal, it can burn your hand when the engine is hot. Stock plastic one won't.

point and case: I got a new transmission replaced under warrenty about 3 months ago (lost 6th gear & 3rd gear grind) and i changed it back to stock in 5 minutes "just incase"

^ same here just replaced 6 speed tranny 3 weeks ago, locked out of 6th gear, and could not shift into forward gears unless i was at a complete stop from reverse. just put back on my stock Vias setup, and trying to drive at a moderate pace, but its hard to do with HLSD gearbox.

I can rarely release my plastic oil cap by hand, and have to use pliers anyway. So if I had a pretty Nismo cap, I'd be sure to scratch it up.

What are we talking about again?

i kinda did the same thing as E. I took off the vias plate and had some 1/8th inch steel plates sitting around. After a tracing of the vias gasket and somework with a hack saw and bandsaw i had my block off. Cleaned it up with mothers aluminum mag polish and it is shiny as brushed steel. Oh and it doesthe job. i do feel at 3500 it just pull. but i still have that hesitation in 3rd from 3-4k.. hmm go figure
