Weather got cold, 2k SE started missing on one cylinder. Since it's only got 21k and the dealer's down the street I took it in. Problem diagnosed as bad coil (over plug). It's been on nationwide backorder for 6 days!!! Is this just an oddity or has an epidemic caused this? Anybody else out there have coil problems?

 

This has surfaced as a problem on some maximas.... a few have had it... look a few threads down, there is a discussion there. Also, there is a service bulletin on it now...

 

Count me in. Week before T-Day my 2K began to miss; Check Engine light was on. Disconnected the battery overnight to see if I'd gotten some junky fuel but the miss and the light returned. John Elway Nissan diagnosed the problem as the #2 coil and ordered it the day before Thanksgiving. As yet no part, but the car seems to run fine without the new one. Must be an intermittent failure.

 

My 2K2 max se had the same problems, the car stayed in the shop for 2 weeks. This problem along with several others prompted me to get rid of the max and try the new altima, 3.5 se 5 speed, no more automagic transmission!

 

My 2k Max SE has a coil problem too. One of the six di coil is bad and they can't figure out which one it is. It's now been over a month that I have had this problem. They want to replace all 6 for six hundred dollars. I now have 50k miles on the car and my warranty has expired.

 

no it hasn't. Powertrain warranty is 5 yr/60k miles... coils are part of the engine, so they should be covered.
