Brand new Fogs already cracked!!

So im kinda ticked off cause I just spent $120 on a pair of fogs on Ebay and got put them in. now a month and a half later.....I was gone for 2.5 weeks in that time. both my fogs are cracked. my car sat out side that whole time and was never run, could that be the problem, cause durring the time I was in costa rica we up here in minnesota had literally -25-30 dagree wheather thats not including the wind chill. could this have effected the fogs.

BTW I have a 02 SE

Wow, that sucks. Any warranty? Even though used OEM fogs are somewhat hard to find, but I would rather wait and spend the money for them.

the glass fogs are prone to getting cracked from road debris. Most people put clear film to protect them.

A new pair of fogs was like $170 from ABC Nissan about a year ago if you bought the kit to add fogs to GXE Maxima's (which came with none).

Not sure about thickness, but I would assume better quaility vs ebays. My car has 90K on it and orginal fogs are not crack, but I am thinking about buying Lamin-X.

Better to slap a protector on it. Like a plastic cover. Will protect from rock chips.

Could just be cheap glass. Sometimes it is worth paying the stealership price for OEM.

The fogs are molded from PC, Polycarbonate. Same material as your eyeglasses. Tough and scratch resistant. Not all polycarbonates are equal. The aftermarket uses lesser quality PC.

As well as your headlamps. They are PC. Headlamps receive a clear coating for UV and scratch resistance. I have seen a Japanese factory apply this coating.

The 00-01 fogs are plastic. The 02-03 fogs are glass.

This is what my fog lights looked like after 7 years. They both had holes and were destroyed.

I replace 'em with new OEM ones and put the 40 mil Lamin-x on 'em.

So far, so good.

I did the Lamin-X thing a while ago. They Lamin-X ended up turning yellow/brown from getting so hot. I ended up pulling it off. Good luck with that

Yes! it's thicker....Check with Courtesy's full kit which includes the stalk, both lamps, relay for about $120-140... next time apply the protective laminate film on your lamps....this subject is all over the org and apparently you didn't search or read up on staying away from those EL' Cheapo Ebay foglights........ Mine were cracked within the first month of me buying my 2003 and I installed the Courtesy Kit 7 yrs ago with that potective laminate film and everything has been fine with no problems nor defects....

High wattage bulbs or extended periods of time with foglights on and no airflow.....

CMax03, youre probably right. Ive been in an accident that totaled my ride because "someone didnt see me", so I run with my headlights and fogs on ALL the time. Also, Ive been running PIAA bulbs for years and they seem to get pretty hot. As mentioned above, I ended up pulling off the Lamin-X, but ironically enough, the adhesive filled in the cracks and sealed them up. There is not any moisture in them and theyre still havent blown. Also, I have one aftermarket "Depo" foglight and one OEM foglight and both ended up cracking. Honestly, I think its a horrible design to use glass for foglights when they are susceptible to cracking from road debris.
