Ya, I just think the maxima is one of those cars where the CAI isn't optimal. Wishful thinking but I think the SRI is just about as good as it's going to get.

Anyhow, any gain is a good gain. 1-2 HP or more is better than no HP gain. And with the VIAS block off plate already robbing low end torque (in my case), the last thing needed is another mod that takes away even more of that low end torque.

SRI with cold air ported to the filter seems to be the best option as Rochester had pointed out. Now to figure out how to creatively do it.

 

Here's a design concept:

• Push one of those curvy 3" tubes to the underside of the car so the bottom end acts as an air scoop, and the top end feeds the SRI pop-charger. You'd probably have to turn the battery 90 degrees. Even better, flare the scoop-end somehow.
• Enclose the pop-charger area with a thermal heat-shield, to reduce temps (?) and create an area of negative air pressure to insure air is drawn up the port.
• Cap the pop charger end of the air scoop with a screened-in foam filter, to safeguard against debris and water.

I'm obviously no mechanical engineer, so all this is a brainstorming pipe-dream. But... doable? If someone put something like that together, and dyno'd a couple HP bump, it would probably sell like hotcakes. You could call it the "SRI Cold Air Port Kit".

Granted, it would have to be attractive as well as functional. If only there were someone with the interest, the car, creativity and manufacturing skills. (Knight_yyz comes to mind.)

 

Man this thread makes me happy I have a Place racing cold air no cutting required an my battery is in the stock location! But I will say i am leaning towards a SRI I will find out witch is best when I redyno...

i had to cut when i had my 4th.

 

i jus did this today took me bout 30 min total to make sure everything wuz snugg took it out and didnt notice much but when i got back after beatin it n opened the hood the intake was cool to the touch even the manifold. Before i was having problems with the intake i had getting to hot this solved my problem thanx man. I have pics but i dont no how to put them up on here lol if someone can tell me i got pics of my original when i first did the battery relocation and after wit the new intake. Thanx again

It probably came from many other intakes.

 

the intake i bought on ebay it was for an altima ser it cost me 69.99. the kit came wit everything the maf adapter and all it was a pretty solid kit. I jus cut some of the piping to fit snugg. All u have to do is buy another coupler and clamps.
