I had been having this same problem recently. What seemed to work for me was to just let the car warm up for a little bit, instead of taking it right out. The jerking has stopped since.

it is cause you car is to cold....you should let it warm up...this should be obvious seeing as how you can do damage to the engine if you run it hard when its cold

Sounds more like one of your ignition coils is dying. Your ECU may have recorded the problem code, even though the SES didn't go on.

BTW, it's OK to put descriptive information in your thread title. Your thread will get more attention, and you'll have a better chance at getting appropriate feedback.

Good luck with the rough running. I know that helpless feeling; it's very frustrating.

Yeah i think its most likely just not warmed up enough. Definately try to warm it up and see how that does and let us know. One time i didnt let it warm up and the car was jerking and it ended up shutting off as i was pulling through an intersection. Last time, i ever take the car right out ha!

I've had the same issue. It only happens when shes cold and I drive right off. You don't even have to be rough on her for it to happen. I get her warmed up appropriately now and drive her nice till she gets all hot and bothered...then I go for the gusto! 01' AE 5sp...might have helped to know what you were rolling with in your post as well. Good luck!

In an 00-01 I know that tends to be the IM gasket. I replaced mine and the "bucking" went away. It, too, was a cold only type issue.

Where do you guys live, Antarctica?

Unless the temperature is sub-zero Fahrenheit, you shouldn't "need" to warm the car up for it to operate properly. I would check for problem codes.

On the 00-01 (at least mine) the bucking was brutal, but no codes. Replaced the gasket on DaveB's recommendation and the problems went away.

I guess we spare DaveB the call at this point because it sounds like it's been summed up as the IM gasket. It also sounds like it's only really apparent when it's cold that it may need replacing as shown by the bucking. Thanks for the info...sounds like a good spring project seeing as how it's not that bad on mine and only really on days under 15 degrees or so.

Cars to cold, let it warm up lol... Its actually better to get in and go.

It is the IM gasket, they were ****ty from the manaf. and leak making your car lean. It will buck, mine has for about 5 yrs now and is related to cold. When you start to detect the buck let of the gas and slowly back into it and it won't do it again, switch gears and it will want to buck again, back out of gas and slow back in and it won't. Rinse and repeat. I will eventually replace the gasket.

got the gaskets from DaveB...there were a couple that I replaced as I tore down to the IM gasket. The IM gasket was like 25 bucks, I think.

my 00 does this too, i am fine if i am accelerating or under compression but if i am coasting and the pedal is just right it stutters kind of. only until it starts to warm up though. Am i still looking at an IM issue?

When this happens to me, I throw the car in park, turn it off, turn it back on, and let it warm up for a bit before I move it.

my car does the same thing when its too cold.
the question i have to ask is, why only does my maxima do this?
possibly maybe a factory problem?

Mine does the same exact thing. (01 dek)

I think what happens is the gaskets are hard when they're cold and with them being bad, they dont seal properly. When they start to warm up, they soften up just enough to seal the IM. But this is just my stupid mind thinking stupid thoughts. I'll change them when I'm not so lazy.

I always give my car 10 mins minimun <40 when sitting overnight, about 3/5 when warm.

Hell we are talking about 7-10 yr old cars!

What a waste of gas! Mine starts up perfectly fine and I give it about 30 seconds and drive under 2k until I get about 1/2 temp going then its normal driving. Mine sits outside ALL the time and starts perfecting fine at <0.

You are fuel dilluting your oil and wasting gas. That warming up does nothing other than give you creature comforts. There should be no reason to warm up a car like that.
