You more than likely only get checked for CEL vai the OBD2 port....Most states only perform emission load test on cars made before 96, including some 97 Volvos...I have headers on 3 of my 4 cars....
1. 2003 Nissan Maxima (Cattman Headers) about 2 yrs...pass OBD2 test with NO PROBLEMS
2. 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody P'up ( Headers/Cam/intake/Ignition) I've passed with flying colors for the past 6-7 yrs...15 mph and 25 mph load test....
3. 1990 Nissan Maxima (VG30E) not tested yet but it's running clean (Headers/Ignition system/Cams/CAI) and I don't see it having any issues once I'm completely finished....passing the emission load test....

You probably need to hear from somebody who specifically went through a CT state inspection. That way you'll know for sure if it's just a 'sniffer' test, only an OBDII scan, or if there's a visual inspection involved as well.

There might be some information available online at your DMV site.

I'm in NJ, so I don't know if your inspection uses state facilities only or if it is or can be done at a private shop.

It really depends on state to state. Here in Ny they test the emissions out the exhaust pipe. Not sure if they plug into the OBD2 port as they do in NC (but no emissions) since its been years since I got a car inspected in Ny. Better off just asking them!
