cruise control not setting no blinking
cruise control not setting no blinking
i have searched and no everyone has a blinking cruise control light. I checked my brake lights and everything seems to be working fine.
my set light comes on and a couple seconds later it just turns off. I did some work in the engine bay and i had to move the cruise control pump but i mounted it back up fine. i did t see any connectors going through it but its night time so i could be wrong.
any ideas on how to fix it on a 2000 max?

Cruise Control Troubles
Hi,
Im sorry to hear about this unfortunate event. I too have a 2000 Nissan Maxima (MT) and i was working around the gauge cluster without removing the power from the battery and all of a sudden my Cruise Control stopped working. After many hours of testing i found that the Cruise Control Computer (ASCD) was toast.
Anyways in response to your question, i assume when you put everything back together you plugged the power connector back into the ASCD Pump. You also checked the brake switch and other components. What i suggest you try to do is take the car for a spin and perform a "System Test", all you need to do is drive and press the brake while activating the cruse control and pressing the SET/COAST button. if the SET light blinks you have a problem in the system(ie. Pump, switch, speed sensor) but if it doesn't then it is most likely the ASCD computer by itself.
In the event that it turns out to be the computer i suggest you to get a computer from a junked maxima since the comp is located behind the radio and even in an accident thats one of the safest places. I am planning on buying a new one since i dont have many MT nissans available in any junk yard, sadly the ASCD costs $375.
I hope this helped and good luck!

doing what correctly? using the actual buttons, yes. I have used the cc numerous amounts of times. i had to move the cc pump so i may have not connected everything.
if my idle dropped a little since i did work on the car could that be the problem as well?
ASCD pump
The wire for the pump is right under the rubber gasket where the hood closes. the wire should be right around the driver side shock tower and should have a somewhat square connector on it. it has to be there : ) and in response to the idle, the idle is controlled digitally by the engine computer so the idle dropping could have been from an adjustment you made on the throttle cable that was keeping the throttle open a little bit. there should always be just a little slack in the throttle cable and cruise control cable for proper operation.
i thought maybe i was missing a power connector. turns out all the hose were connected but the one that turns and goes into the pump was actually not connected all the way in. i tested it and now it works.
from the angle i could see it the cable actually looked connected until i reached back there. thanks alot guys

Hey guys, know this is an old thread but I'm gonna try anyway. My cruise is turning on fine but does absolutely nothing when I press the set button. I checked the break and clutch pedal switches and both seem to be functioning ok. Any input is appreciated, thanks
Here is something to check. I pulled my hairs on the same issue for a couple months when and I had time. I went through the whole harness trying to figure out the problem. What I came up with is this: you know where the clutch cutout switch is and the cruise control cut out switch is? It's right over the clutch pedal. There are 2 switches. Remove tge kick panel so you can see all of the wires. Take a look at the switch that the clutch pedal touches when it is not pressed( the one closest to the driver. There should be 2 wires and those 2 are really short coming out of a harness. They are no longer than about 6 in each. Take a close look at those they have a habit of tearing. I ended up repairing my harness and securing the wire better so it doesn't vibrate. That's what broke mine and gave me BIG PROBELMS! let me know if you need more help. :P
