7 Days with my 2002 SE 6 Speed

Well it's been 7 days to the hour that I have had my SE. I'm very happy and satisfied with my purchase. But I'm a nit picker so here are my complaints.....

- The front of the car feels a little floaty for me specially at speeds over 100/kph.

- Spongy brakes, I'm gonna bleed them to see if it helps.

- Turning radius sucks....

But that's about it so far!

Questions for other SE 6speed owners, in the Max brochure it says we get perforated leather seats and drilled pedals. I have normal leather and rubber pedals.

what gives, I know the pedals claim late availability but when is late? I don't care about the leather because I like the leather I have over perforated.

The drilled pedals will come with HLSD equiped 6 speed Maximas.

BUT, I did notice the leather was not perforated when I went to test drive one at my dealer. He said (I know, dealers are not reliable )
that Nissan changed supplier and that the new leather (SE) was not going to be perforated.

I'm from Toronto Canada, so all 6SPDs comes with HLSD, so I don't get it...no biggie though, I sat in a SE AE and I felt the pedals were a little slippery, I have not driven with them so some who has them would have a more accurate opinion. I think I will just have to go aftermarket.

There have been a couple threads in the past month about whether a LSD of any kind was on the cars currently being produced. I don't remember what the consensus was (I think it was determined that they have VLSD vs. having no LSD at all), but your car definitely doesn't have HLSD. HLSD either just went into production or is about to go into production, it is not on any delivered cars at this point.

I too am from Canada but IF your dealer told you that you had HLSD he LIED to you. They will only be available in Jan. or Feb.

Hence, you do not have drilled pedals (like the 2001 AE).

P.S.: The brochure states that it will be late availability and the dealer has a binder with all the information. In it is written that the HLSD will begin production in December. The first batch of 6 speed don't have the HLSD.

Sprint,

I called Nissan Canada (again) to ask them if it was an open dif. or a LSD. They still say that ALL of the current 6 speed Maximas are open dif.

2 options:
1. they (Nissan) are ignorant.
2. the Maxima does not have a LSD.

Either way, I'm waiting for my HLSD.

Well it's confirmed I don't have it. which f***** sucks! but it's my own fault for not investigating further.

ummmm I wonder how difficult it would be to have it installed when the parts are available.

maybe I will just sell my current one and buy a new one in February....screw it I'll just buy a 350Z in spring...

I've had someone at Nissan Canada tell me that all SE models (auto and 6 spd) have VLSD and that the HLSD is only going to be available in Dec. production 6 spd models not autos. So I guess it depends on who you talk to, BUT I've got lotsa twin black marks which clearly indicate that the person you talked to is WRONG.

My assuption is that I do have VLSD as Canadian model always has VLSD (an option for US models i believe) and that HLSD is new for 2002...my sales guy which is not a nissan dealer (cars4u.com) said that the HLSD option just showed up on his computer.

The 2001 Maxes are using the new supplier of leather. I work at the company that used to supply the Maxima, but Nissan squeezed so much on cost that we let the job go to a competitor. We'll probably get it back in a couple of years when they realize they're losing money on it.
