gear oil leak

Yesterday I had my driver side cv shaft seal replaced in order to fix a leak. Unfortunately the leak was still there today. So I brought it back to my mechanic and on the side of the transmission there was a hole that had been plugged up with a plastic cap and a bunch of silicon it looked like.

Apparently the hole was supposed to be there, but it just wasn't plugged up properly. I'm not sure what it's called but maybe someone here can help me with that?

The only reason I am inquiring about it is because my mechanic plugged it up with something he called a "Freeze Cap" by tapping it in. Seems to be a pretty tight fit, but I am just wondering if there is an oem part that doesn't hold the risk of falling into the transmission if it pops out of place. Basically it looks like if it was tapped in too far it would fall into the transmission. Maybe I'm just worrying about this too much, but I'd rather not take a risk. If anyone else can confirm that he plugged it up the proper way I won't even bother looking up an oem part.
