Custom intake for 2001; hate to do this but...

I hate to make another intake thread, but I'm not finding what I need with the search. I went through the first 5 or 6 pages with no luck.

Basically, it's getting warm out and I'm itching to get outside and do some work on the Max. I'm thinking about selling in maybe a year, so just looking to do something simple. Wanted to install a WAI, considered buying the Berk/Apexi setup, but the $200 price tag for just an audible performance improvement is holding me back.

So I'm considering the custom route. Looking for a specific list of what I would need to install a custom intake onto my 2001. Ideally I'd like to use an AEM or Apexi dry filter. Can anyone list off exactly what I'd need to make this work?

1. Midpipe-(similar to these)
2. MAF adapter
3. (2) 3" couplers
4. 6" filter (Obv.)
5. Velocity stack (optional)

Thats basically what your gonna need, you can check out my pics, cuz i went the same route and made a custom SRI on my 2000.

Hey, you should check out http://www.burnsstainless.com/ they have a great selection of mandrel bent sections and clamps to really create something classy. Maybe have it tig welded at a local shop to save some coin?

Good luck!

You're eveywhere I'm sure it's not the intake maybe some other **** is clogged since now you're getting alot more air and it cant blow it out the back end or something. And shut the **** up with the bad choice **** I'm happy with mind!

CosmoRacing.com

$65 for a short ram setup. Then run out and buy yourself a decent cone filter to replace the piece of junk they send with it.

That way you aren't wasting gas running to and from trying to find all the components.

Fwiw, you could also try 3" exhaust piping and a cone filter. sparks03max had something like that installed in his Max.

I don't agree. My 2000 I30 would ping and have awful low end power until I took out the stock intake and replaced it with the Berk set up years ago!

Back then they use to sell the Berk Intake here on the org for much less than $200

Our stock intake really isn't a bad setup.

...granted you drill a few holes in the air box.
