Loud Rumbling at 60mph. Wheel bearing(s)?

I'm hearing a loud rumbling sound at 60mph and it quiets down as I increase speed past that. It's still audible at that point though. I got 4 new tires (not because of the noise) and yet the sound still exists.

Could this be a bad wheel bearing? Any ideas?

Thanks.

um i had the same problem, it was on my passenger driver side, i took off the wheel to inspect it and the wheel nut (gold) was loose. check yours out if you want to tighten it the size is 32mm socket. it supposed to be really tight something like 188-255 lbs of torque or something.

No, he is referring to the axle nut.

When you take the wheel off, you will see it. You can also remove the center cap.

It needs to be torqued to upwards of 240 ft/lbs.

Do you think I can do that with an 18" breaker bar?

I had the same exact problem jus like u guyz except mine wuz comin from the drivers side in the back it wuz my wheel bearing. i replaced my tires because i thought that wuz the problem but i still heard the noise from 45-60 mph and then afta that it would stop. I even got my wheels rebalanced because thatz what my mechanic said wuz wrong. Check the wheel bearings.

If you can push the very end of the bar with 160 pounds of force, then yeah. You can always slide a pipe over the wrench also.

Rumbling

I currently have that same problem. Mine is coming from the drivers side. I changed my bearings over the weekend and still have that same problem. Not only is it rumbling, but its really bumpy. I also have a srubbing noise when i go straight and make right turns. I have no idea what it could be! Struts would explain the bumpy ride but not the srubbing noise. Could someone please advise?

It's possible with an 18" bar but easier if you put a pipe on the end of course. Best way to do it is by pulling up instead of trying to push down on the bar. You're basically using the ground for leverage in this case. It's the only way I'm able to break loose the axle nut after it's been tightend with a 250ft.lb Impact gun.

A pipe on the end to a 18" bar will break the bar (I have done it before). Get a good impact wrench that will take upwards of 200 ft.lbs

If it's of cheap bar quality it will.

I've got a 160 peice ratchet set from lowes I bought about 2-3 years ago for around $70-$80. The 1/2" ratchet + my jack handle is what I use to break axle nuts loose and re-tighten them all the time. I've done this countless times and have never broken it. Even if it ever does, it has a lifetime warranty. I've never needed an impact wrench for anything since this set.

EDIT: Found it...

Best $80 I've ever spent
