Center Console - Faux Wood Removal?

Does anyone know if the faux/plastic wood can be removed from the center console? I've got some chipped places near my cupholder that look like crap, but I don't want to replace the entire center console just for that. (And I don't want to buy a whole glue on wood kit. Those look rediculous.)

Thanks!

I would, but its got some actual divits in it and I like the wood. And whenever I paint anything it turns out ****ty because the paint runs or bubbles or something stupid like that.

Maybe look for a used console @ the wreckers. If you could find one in good shape, that would be the easiest.

What about another wood style overlay kit? They should be thick enough to mask any divits, I would think. Plus you wouldn't have to try and pull them off, but then I've never used an overlay kit.

its all one plastic piece that looks like wood...you would have to replace the entire thing...or realize wood grain (especially fake plastic wood grain) is for old people and get a different dash kit

I like the wood grain because it hides dust. I refuse to rice out my car with fake carbon fiber or aluminum all over the place. That looks worse, and more obviously fake than the wood we have. If the actual pieces were formed to *replace* the stock parts, I'd consider it, but I've seen some pretty ugly dash kits.

rice?

you implied that my 00 was rice just because it had a molded brushed aluminum kit

a good molded kit looks stock and WAY better than the tacky fake woodgrain...but to each their own

A fine example of dishing it out while being unable to take it.

Woodgrain looks fine on an Infiniti. Aftermarket trim looks, well... aftermarket.

i agree with sooner on this,i got woodgrain in my car and it looks like it belongs to an old lady or something, ive been lookin to trade for a SE trim but not many takers in the country...my next step is either buying an aluminum overlay kit which ive seen in person and looks SICK or sanding and painting it to suit my preferance, the choice is yours its your car so dont be so negative about peoples responses because it was THEIR car that they put the overlay on and NOT yours, you asked for opinions and answers and got em so dont be crying like a little kid......

+1 on the aluminum. I think cars with aluminum or metallic (but not chrome) interior accents look really nice. Like Acura interiors for example. But wood accents have their place too. In a more luxury oriented car, wood kind of softens the interior's look and makes it look more inviting. But I prefer matallic trim.

You said wood grain is for old people. I said 3M stick on aluminum trim is for ricers. We're even. We can both dish it out, and we can both take negative criticism. So yes, to each their own.

Like I said before, I do like aluminum when it's actually part of the car. It's this vs this. Big difference.

EDIT: If I drove something more sporty like a new camaro, I would expect to see aluminum or carbon fiber, not wood, but I have an Infiniti, which is by no means a race inspired vehicle. Aluminum would look out of place in my car.

well to answer your original question...there is nothing you can do to fix the problem since you have decided you want to keep it

Yea. Figured I'd have to get a whole new console but waned to double check.

And I'm sure aluminum looks good in your truck. Xterras and Pathfinders are rugged 4x4 machines, in which aluminum works fine in. Didn't mean to say it was a ricer. My bad.

i think it looks better in cars too...but thats just me...my 00 maxima was a GLE that had wood grain which nissan think makes it "luxury"...i spent $300 on a good molded brushed aluminum kit...only used the pieces that covered the "wood" pieces so it looked factory...i didnt get the pieces that cover every flat surface (like around the head unit and climate control) because I agree that looks rice

No, Sooner, the OP disagreed, whereas you cast dispersions on the OP's judgment, then got thin skinned when it came back to you. For the sake of discussion, consider the difference between the two approaches:

"I think that mod looks rice."
"Only a ricer would like that mod."

It's a simple psych trick, and some people do it naturally without even realizing. For example, Bush reflexively applied demeaning pet names to people because he was at an intellectual disadvantage, and by introducing a personal dispersion it gave him a tactical advantage in the interaction. While everyone else knew what he was doing, he thought he was being endearing, and wasn't aware of his own crass behavior.

On topic (somewhat), while I'm not fond of aftermarket trim kits, aluminum trim can and does work very well on cars designed with that in mind. The G37 aluminum trim, for example, is downright gorgeous.

You compare the two aluminum dashes...but at the same time you really cant compare the two because they are two completely different maximas.... most 6th gens come with aluminum looking while the 5th gens a 5.5 gens dont, they come with a "titanium" looking dash or woodgrain, which in perspective looks horrible because its not woodgrain at all

I recently saw the wood part removed from the console and for sale on ebay. The seller was asking an absurd price, but maybe you can find the part cheaper. I think there is currently a whole console on ebay, but the shipping is as much as the console.

This one is cheaper than I thought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-...Q5fAccessories

Awesome! You've made my day (also answered my original question) and I've made my bid! Thanks!
