More air at 4k RPMs?

Is it weird that when I goose my 02 6spd that it goes great then when I get to 4k RPMs she gets way louder(intake) and you can definitely feel a power gain(or what ever you wanna call it)....so is the just my little valve thats in my IM or what? it just seems weird if any of you have driven a 4cyclander bike its just like on that where the power band jumps and you get pulled back a little more when you hit higher RPMs.

Except some VTEC engines also have variable length intake runners (B18 & H22). If only the Maxima had VTEC it could keep up with the TL's huge top end.

It's because the power rises, then drops, then rises again @ ~ 4k.

This is way down low RPM

And here's a larger look at what's happening:

And here's the FSM's representation:

Reason why so many like the block off plates. Minimizes the fluctuation...

meh, it's worth it at 4000rpm+ Not only does it minimize fluctuation, but it gives you improved top end by removing air restriction... Kinda like a less extreme version of the SSIM mod (gutting the IM)

Wow thanks from reading other threads I had a theory formed of what it does and now.....well...i think I get it. like i under stand the physical actions of it, so if I take it out i know I get a more constant power band?

Especially if your VIAS is on the fritz... Mine was going wonky and not opening etc for a while. Was a source of headaches when I couldn't get the power I needed to pass on the highway, etc. I turf'd the VIAS setup and used the block off plate, no more worries, and the car pulls good all the time.

That's my case though, most ppl with functioning VIAS if not otherwise modified should probably just leave it be.

Leave the stock Helmholtz if you want a smooth powerband.
