need some help...new intake filter size
so i bought my car and it came with the stillen intake kit. well the kit come with a K&N filter...which i have to clean....which is a PITA. ive looked on stillens site to find the size of the filter but there is no information. I think the opening is 3in but im not sure. do i just need to measure it or is measure something else or is there some other long drawn out process...this may seem simple but i just want to make sure i order the right thing the first time.

thanks...i was thinking it was that simple but you know...measure twice, cut once...this cleaning the filter every 3 months is dumb.
how do you like the Dryflow?

not quite sure what u are talking about.. i think its about the size of the filter.. right? i would recommend you to head to autozone or advance auto and get a dry flow filter.. that would be the best i believe.. and they usually will help you if you ask..
I like it but it's only been on my car for about 2 weeks now. It's probably easier to maintain than the K&n. To clean it you just put it in a bucket of water (with the AEM cleaining solution) inlet side up and make sure no water goes into the filter through the inlet. You then swish it around and let it sit for 15 mins, let it dry and put it back on.
You were cleaning the K&n every 3 months? I had a drop-in k&n and i think it only said to clean it every 20k miles or something like that.
There's no mid-pipe in that thing, is there? Bracket, velocity stack, and filter. Interesting.
As to cleaning the K&N filter... see their FAQ. Seems like a crazy long time to me.
I just straight up replace my Apexi every 15K miles.

Berk sells the standard 80mm filter at a good price. They nail you on shipping, though.

That's right... Kentucky roads become unpaved real quick outside the cities.

Im guessing 80mm is what i need? ill measure tonight when i get home.
13.95 for shipping not bad...probably all the packaging so it doesnt get trashed when going through the UPS hub...which is here in Louisville and i know a lot of people who work there and how well they treat the packages. the stories i hear would make a lot of people cringe

Another alternative is an AEM Dryflow. http://www.aemintakes.com/search/univcone.aspx
As for increasing the longevity of your filter, try sticking some pantyhose over it. Works for us in the off-road world.

The ID that actually opens up to the engine/MAF is larger than any other aftermarket intake inlet size. (3" ID.) All other intakes that are not custom, are 2.75. This is why I use the JWT.
The filter has a 6" opening, then it goes to the velocity stack, then the stack opens to the MAF, @ 3", as stated prior.
And just FYI, Stillen/JWT are identical with the exception of the mounting hardware. they do the same job, but look different.
Your logic is invalid.

Or, you can get the JWT filter from SB Filters for 30 + shipping.
http://www.sbfilters.com
It has a 'power stack'. vs the Stillen closed end.
It's PN R1227.

If it's the Stillen short ram, (like mine is), this should be the one your after. I hope so, 'cause I just ordered one.
Looks like this. Correct?

I'm with Nmex, I thought the Stillen(Stealin) was sorta like the JWT popcharger which is a 6" filter............
