What do you do to make your engine look pretty? :)

Hey man, your car look sick... I see you have put some Cool flex hoses, those really look good.
I just got the hood hinge, door hinges and the lock or whatever it's called show chromed, I will pick the last few parts over the week-end and post some pics. Where did you bought the P/S oil container and the over flow tank ? Those look really nice. BTW I never received a reply from that UK company wtf...

I bought the containers straight from Weapon R. Had to do some modifying to make them work.
Yeah, that UK company never replied to me either. I sent them a couple of e-mails. Maybe they went under.

All over the engine bay, there are wiring harness connectors, like this one at the throttle body, where the individual wires are exposed. Now some of them, like the ABS connector, are coincidentally round, where wire-loom cleanly wraps around the end of the plastic. But most are like the throttle body here.
Has anyone thought about a way to make that cleaner looking? Electrical tape just seems to unwrap over time and look sloppy.

Ok I see. Are you from AZ ? The reason I asked is I will be travelling to Las-Vegas for the CES in January, once I'm done there I'm taking a flight to Tucson and will be spending few day up there, my sister live there. Maybe we can have a beer and share some ideas... What do you think ?

Hole Plugs
Last week, rroderiques77 pointed out that the holes in the front cross-member serve no purpose, and look better plugged. He's right.
I found these silver/gray plastic plugs at LOWES the other day that look pretty good against my silver paint. But their ribbed post is way too small to be effective.
So I bought a nylon spacer with a 1/4" hole, and cut it to size, then ground its sides down until it fit perfectly into the holes on the cross-member. The spacer/washer was then superglued to the underside of the hole plug. Fit the plug into the hole and use a stainless steel washer with a 1/4" hole on the underside of the cross-member to sandwich it together.
Looks pretty good. Or at least... it looks better than a hole.

I've started the process of redoing the water pipes. I was able to sand the o2 brackets clean off. I plan on doing the same with all other unnecessary brackets.
#687
If you cut the O2 sensor brackets off the water pipes, that means you're tucking the harness connectors under the engine cover, right? I'm looking forward to seeing that, Roy.

That's just the first place I started. There are a pair of similarly sized holes on each end of the cross-member that I'm working one next.

Yesterday I had a small meet-up with probably the only other 5th gen Org member in Rochester, NY. As we were looking at my engine bay, I mentioned what I was doing with these hole plugs, and qualified the discussion with something self-deprecating, like, "It's kind of dumb... I don't know why I'm doing this." Or something like that.
Kevin laughed and said, "It's your hobby."
And there it is. Simple.

Roy (and probably doublea) takes his car to auto shows. For me (and maybe the rest here), it's personal is all. Very few people have seen under my hood. Mostly just you guys and my mechanic.

Here is how I have tuck the O2 connectors, I think it's a bit better, but not exactly what I'd like. What I was thinking is to solder a cable extension and totally hide the O2 connectors somewhere we cant see it. Do you think that if I solder a cable extension to the O2 cable it might cause a problem ? I mean voltage or resistance wise, my knowledge in the electrical departement is some how limited.

You can actually polish the water pipe, they are nickel plated wich can be very shinny similar to chrome, once polish give it a few coat of high temps clear, it will look great and only cost few buck to do.
Powder coating can be really also very nice.

It's kind of funny since my project is pretty underground, beside you guys here only a handfull of person have seen the real thing, my immediate neighbour are not even aware of this project.

As far as the connectors, I think as long as they are tucked and hidden, then it is ok. I will eliminate all the ones I cannot hide.
AA. Let's see that engine bay again...

I brought my Stillen FSTB to work yesterday and de-anodized it. IE removed the clear anodized layer off of it. I'm sending it out for polishing and will have it re-anodized blue.
Pics coming soon

I was also sort of looking into removing my timing cover, but correct me if I'm wrong, but can't do it in car, can I.

I think you can take the timing cover off while in the car but you can't actually do the timing chain while in the car. I could be wrong though.

This isn't my car but its a small example of what cd2 is capable of with the proper procedure & tools.
1. Mask all the sensitive electrical units with a bag.
2. Spray your favorite degreaser.
3. Allow it to sit for a few minutes.
4. Start brushing.
5. Power Wash (keep power hose 8-10 inches away).
6. Use an air gun/compressor to completely dry the engine.
7. Spray the CD2
8. Leave the hood open & allow 15 minutes for it to dry.
9. Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure most caps come with these logos as separate decals, intended to be applied after installation so that the sticker is reasonably oriented. That's how it was with the NISMO sticker on my JDM cap... which I just never applied.

You might get lucky sometimes and find them at a parts store. But I usually get them from the link below:

For sure. I'll check into it. Thanks.

Me too. I took my black Racingline FSTB and sanded it down. Dropped it off for powdercoating along with torque link and coolant pipes. Going to have the FSTB and coolant pipes black metallic and the torque link gray metallic.

This is just a little creative image editing done with a Cefiro badge... I haven't actually bought the thing. The image below isn't really from my car...
...but the dimensions seem about right. I think it would really fit that space well.
What do you guys think? Too over the top?

^There is something about it I dont like^. I wanna say, borderline tacky. I say try it with a real emblem, get real pics and go from there. It looks like a good chop, but you never know.
You can. It's just a pain in the rear.

ARGH! I just got impulsive and bought it anyway. $16 free shipping. If I like it, fine. If not, I'll stick it in my office somewhere.
Hey Roy, do you know what it's like to buy sometime impulsively? I bet you do.

Oh, I know what you're saying. The burger is the old design and gold. The casing has kind of a beige look to it. It's just that the dimensions seemed really, really perfect.

Very nice, Roy. Man, I barely get a thought rolling around in my head, before you're already done and moving on to the next thing!
Were you having the bar in your FSTB powdercoated as well?
And did your guy do anything special with regard to how hot those front water pipes get?
Some more water pipe questions...
Is there a gasket or o-ring involved in the front?
Did you buy new rubber hose connectors?
Are you going with ti-bolts at the front of the pipes?

You will need new o-rings at the end of the pipes. My rubber hoses are wrapped in heat shield due to the turbo, so I will have to see what you're talking about there. As far as bolts, I haven't decided yet.
