IDK about huge. Seems to me the risk is minimal to none-at-all.

However, I wouldn't advise it purely on stylistic considerations. I can't imagine seeing a knit koozie on the brake fluid reservoir and thinking it looks good.

Yeah its pretty funny. Your "this is a rad cap" was perfect. that's exactly what I thought when i read it.

I'm going to leave the cosmetic nick knacks for a couple weeks and do more of a bulk order for some of this stuff. This rad cap will be on that list, thanks a lot Rochester!

Rochester you could always powdercoat over the lettering.i'm telling you brother that $99 powder coater with a toaster oven has put some work in on the restore of the 97 max as well as some lawn equipment my JD tractor looks almost brand new with all the powder coated green and yellow.you can also do plastic parts as long as they can handle the 350* heat.

 

"Pricey" is relative to how much you want it. Zeetoyz is asking $25 (USD), and it's likely shipping from CA to US is high... so yeah, kind of pricey.

You have to ask him to make you one without the "Z" on it. And AFAIK, all Nissan/Infiniti dipstick handles are identical.

knight_yyz lives in Hamilton, Ontario (where this Zeetoyz guy is), and he was kind enough to pick it up for me last year.

Hey I got a question for you guys regarding the bay.

My Injen CAI got stained when my radiator blew up a couple months ago, and I could not get the coolant off of it at all with anything. I tried with so many different things that it started taking the chrome coat or w.e off the intake. I finally got fed up with it and used Scotch-Brite to take it off, along with the chrome.

Do you guys like how it looks? Or what could I use to shine it back up?

 

If the polish is damaged then your next best option is to paint it or powdercoat. And when you look at it that way, rather than getting discouraged, a whole world of options open up.

 

i like the satin look but you can polish it up with a wheel and some compound made for alum wheels

 

My intention was to clean it up like that, then do something to bring the shine back. After I was done, I was like hmm I kind of like it.

Now I kind of miss the shine so I am debating either leaving it, or doing something to bring it back.

I know man, I agree because I've said that like 3 times now. It's etched, and won't come off without damaging the anodized surface.

Painting is an option. Covering it is another. (merovi, that nismo sticker is too small.) The easiest option is to not obsess over it. But then I run the risk of seeming inconsistent over what I do or don't obsess over, LOL.

 

The cap looks good. I like how it says "HOT" I just wished the small wording read, "open when at operating temperature."

And "Aluminum"... duh.

As for "Radiator Protection Cover"... IDK what that's supposed to mean. It's not like the OEM radiator cap needs protection from anything. That's pretty dumb.

Clearly, the designers came up with their own wording, sitting in a cubical somewhere. They had a font, and a requirement to put words all the way around the center, but never talked to anyone who would actually use this. However, to their credit, the device itself is very cool. So I'm going with that aspect and liking it.

They are a local company up in webster area that will wrap anything. I bet money you could go down there and walk out with a perfectly sized wrap of anything for pretty damn cheap too.

Yup! Been there a few times for some random stickers. I actually got the flat black vinyl I used to blackout the chrome on my altima there. They just cut some strips and charged me a few bucks. Very easy going people and I try and support them when I can.

They wrap tons of stuff, lips, laptops, phones, rims. anything. It's high quality stuff so they probably have something heat resistant.

Send Ed a picture of what you want, the size of the area to be covered, and get a decal made. He does amazing work!

I disagree about the CF, that would look silly.

But yes you can easily grab a piece of Vinyl with an adhesive back and cut it to size too. Any Sign shop will have scraps of this laying around.

I've painted it (vinyl) before with positive results. Skuff it up lightly with fine grit paper or a 3M pad, and paint it body colour or something. You could use a large hole punch or something and cut the center out of the vinyl also to still show the "HOT" or anything else you like.

The guy does amazing work! In fact he duplicated the Bob Sharp Nissan logo from a picture on the CT. Z Club site IIRC. As a side note the decals are pretty much permanently adhered to a clean surface. I found this out the hard way trying to get said decal off the car with less than good results. Armed with a heat-gun and liberal soaking with WD40(dissolves almost any adhesive). The sticker had better adhesion than some of the paint.
Category, "I should have F'ing left it alone!" Fortunately I had a spare decal to cover the scar. So a Bob Sharp decal is staying on the car thanks to your's truely's stupidity.

 

Received the battery tray today and went ahead and installed it. Its very nice quality and the battery fits perfect. My only complaint is that the tray didn't come with mounting screws. The mounting holes on the bottom tray are the exact same size as the holes on either side of the top and bottom tray that you use to connect the 2 via the side poles. Therefore you have to seek out screws that will fit down into the holes and not stick up making the battery wobbly. Other than that though Im very pleased and its a good fit in the 4th gen whether you have it positioned laterally or vertically. Heres a picture of it put together

 

I don't understand the tray. The lower part is the actual tray, right? Is the top panel the tie-down?

 

Yes, the top panel fits over the battery post...iirc.

 

Hmm... that's pretty elaborate. The thickness of the top plate looks like it will compromise how much of the pos/neg posts are available for the connectors. And since most batteries aren't flat on the top, I imagine the plate would be applying pressure to areas that weren't designed for tie-down stress. Then again, I don't have it in my hands and haven't seen the install, so that's all armchair quarterbacking. I'll just have to take the posters word for it.

The bottom tray has a perfect cut out to fit the group 35 battery and those four holes are for the mounting. However, they didnt provide screws as I mentioned which makes it hard to find some that will sit down far enough and not make the battery sit uneven. Its a nice little product. I would of preferred brushed aluminum bc Im not the biggest chrome fan but it still makes the normally crappy looking stock battery tie down set-up look better. The holes for the terminals line up and on the battery it has some raised plastic that the holes fit around to keep it in place and avoid the metal contacting the terminals going over a speed bump or something of the sort. It fits around the terminals fine but the only problem is that if clamps touch the plate? Problem lol. I added some rubber around it to avoid that
