Which one ? There is atleast 3{2K fed spec} o2 sensors on his/her max.

ara662, what makes you think it has something to do with the exhaust? There are atleast 25 different sensors that can set off a MIL code. Do a diagnostic, get the # and find out what your problem is. BTW, unplugging your battery for only 1 hour may not do the trick, it may take more time.

I thought since he mentioned exhaust, the problem would lie with the o2 sensors...

first of all, what kind of emissions do you have? Is it a 2k1 or is it 2k? I remember the other thread you posted about getting the wrong y-pipe, so I am guessing you have a cali spec since you also mentioned that you removed the front pre-cat. Did you put everything back to stock? If so, and the light is still on, then you may have a bad O2 sensor. I had a bad O2 sensor on bank 1 that caused my CEL to go on... went to the dealer and got it fixed...

UMD

Maybe he should just leave it as is until he gets the correct Y from Cattman. He can't do any harm to his engine, can he?

I am going to leave this to one of the more knowledgable org members but I am 99% sure running your car as is until you get the correct Y-pipe should be fine.

you have a couple of options:

Bring it back to stock and bolt up everything just like you haven't touched it and take it to the dealer. Maybe the will give you a new front pre-cat.... don't tell them you touched it

OR

Remove the front pre cat and front exhaust manifold entirely. Buy a fed spec front manfiold from any 95-00 maxima. Bolt that up to the engine and then use the fed spec y-pipe. You will have to relocate the O2 sensors the were supposed to go behind the front pre-cat to behind the main cat by drilling a hole in the b-pipe. Reset ECU, and you are done

UMD

Your info is good, I have seen you have posted quite a bit regarding Y-pipes. I plan on ordering the Cattman, don't worry I will make sure I get the right one. Did you do the install yourself? I have seen the instructions, but without a lift I would rather take it to a shop. Could you recommend one? I live in Northern VA, if not no bigee I'm sure I could find a local shop. Also, about what will I pay to have it installed? Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: UMD

I installed the y-pipe my self. It was a real B!tch only because I had to put the stock Y back. When I get the right y-pipe I'll take it to the shoop. I should be around $50

ara622: The downstream O2 sensor is only checking the presence of the pre-cat... not adjusting A/F ratio... so you should be ok as long as the up stream front O2 sensor is ok. A new pre-cat is probably expensive... but you can get a fed spec manifold from a junkyard or other parts site pretty cheap....

Blackgums: The install is not too tough as long as you have floor jack and jack stands... it takes time and can be frustrating getting the old pipe off. There are a few shops that will do the install. Rayco in silver spring (intersection of Georgia Ave and 450), and Altered Atmosphere (www.alteredatmosphere.com) in Gaithersburg both will do the install for less than $100....
