I beat a r32 gti (v6 version) in my dads M35s they arent very fast. VW's are very underpowered

They stopped making all motor GTIs, the MK5 has a 2.0T.. i think their torque is pretty low with like 210hp

vw in general are very heavy cars. they make ok power for the motor size but their weight kills them.
They are very torquey and come out of the hole like a raped ape but very quickly the turbo is out of its efficiency range and the car will literally fall on its face. My buddy has a mk5 gli and i have been to a few large vw meets at the track and those cars with avg driver will be in the low 15's and upper 14's all day. even the new r32 only does about 14.5ish.
It takes several thousand dollars to make them respectable.

chip/flash tune is $700 and you have to have supporting mods. like downpipe, midpipe cat back intake, upgraded dv, and and i/c that will get you to about 250-270 whp. still using the small turbo.
If you want real power you do what my friend s doing. ko4 kit and tune along with i/c piping and a few other parts. thats good for about 330. but by the time you add all the parts and the kit up its over 3500 not including a new clutch.
It takes devotion to own and mod a german car. they are expensive to maintain, and to mod. I sold my 03 325i for my 03 max se cause i was sick and tired of crap breaking, and i couldnt afford to mod it cause parts where crazy expensive

^LOL.
I am extremely familar with nissan in particular. I own a 2004 spec v, My first car was a 89 maxima, my mom has a quest, one brother has a 03 2.5le sentra , another brother has a 08 ser, my dad has a 370z and a 08 spec v.
I went out on a limb with a german car. It has its pluses, but the downsides where to great for me.
I do all my own work on all my cars and friends cars but when it comes to german cars I am lost everything is assbackward, and IMO they use inferior products, like all the rubber and plastic components will disintegrate in your hand when touch them. german cars do know how to engineer a well handling, comfortable, and a smooth, running vehicle (when it runs). I wouldnt hesitate to buy a new bimmer now that they have that new thing bmw offers where all matience and warranty work is completely covered for 5 years or 60k. after thats up that car will be gone though.
But when it came down to it. I was worried everyday that my wife went to work. She drives quite far and does it early in the morning and comes home at night. having a car that I can trust is extremely important to me.
There are things i miss about the bimmer but I am much happier being in a nissan
