Raspy Exhaust

okay guys i installed my obx headers/ypipe a month ago and ive noticed that between 2-3k rpms that a raspy sounds come out as i accelerate i can not stand the noise to me it sounds ricey although on higher rpms on the highway it sounds good.. my mods are listed below the Megan is on the way but what could be the problem ? The noise came after the headers were installed.

I want a sound clip to further diagnose the problem, I would just say resonator, but i would rather hear it for myself.

This is kinda old but as I stated b4 Megan Racing exhaust is a hell of alot louder than Cattman's catback, so I'm sure it's the small 14" rear muffler case compared to Cattman's 19" rear muffler.....Not sure what the resonator size is on the MR but CM is a 4" case that's 22" in lenght on the 2.5" catbacks....

Just curious, do you have an exhaust leak concerning your header installation? I have Cattman Gen.3 on my car and I noticed a tone/sound very similar to what you are describing. I thought it was because of my Flowmaster 50series muffler combined with the headers that I had, so I purchased an OE replacement rear section from CarQuest. This made it over all quieter but I still have the raspy sound at lower rpms. I looked all over the headers and y-pipe and couldn't see any obvious soot where a leak would be. But I'm still convinced that it is leaking on the heads or somewhere. Like I didn't tighten all the bolts properly. I installed them myself, btw.

i have the same issue here, i have a megan catback and installed the obx headers with a highflow cat, and its too loud and sounds really raspy, im going to try to get a stock cat, and if that doesnt help im going to have to get a stock rear section...grrrrr

Go Magnaflow exhaust and check out 4" round resonators p/n 10436 and 10426, respectively 22" and 18" long bodies more than enough to quite the rasp, I would also take a look @ Thrush Glasspacks p/n 24214(powercoated) 4" round, 23" long body and p/n 24240 (stainless steel) 3.5" round body, 20" long body....I'm sure the resonator and muffler from Megan are 14"ers!!!

What's ricey? I know that the 3rd gen Pacesetter catback came with a 14" resonator and 14" rear muffler in 2.25" size tubing......and it was slightly louder than stock but that's with no headers.....I'll be investing into a 5"x 11"x 22" muffler and 22"x 4" round resonator myself on my custom 2.5" catback for my headered VG30E 3rd Gen.....should be rather nice! Not rice!
