Air conditioner temp is only 54 degrees

My son's 02 maxima does not get cold enough when I put the manual setting to 4.(4 is the max and I do have it set to recirculate) The air temp will stay at a constant 54 degrees while I am driving it. If I lower the **** to level 2, the temp will go down to 44 degrees.

Do you guys think the max just need freon?

I don't believe I have a leak since it will hit 44 degrees...

If you need freon, you have a leak.

Thats normal. almost every a/c i have ever used will have a higher temp on the highest fan setting. The number dosent relate to temp the blue and red slider does. so the higher the fan speed the less time the air has to be chilled before its sent into the cabin.
