If you have gone through a MAF or two...come in

I have been through two MAFs. I just buy used ones at the junkyard. I really should buy another to keep around as a spare.....

Anyways to my point of this. Both times the MAF went I was at WOT and i had less than 1/4 tank of gas. Coincidence? Maybe, but i remember talking to someone else once who was at WOT when their MAF went.

So out of curiosity, what happen when your MAF went, Were you at Wide open throttle? Were you low on gas? Sorry if some of you think this is pointless, but i'm just curious.

I had the GAB, and had several WOT runs that day. The MAF blew when I was cruising on the highway, probably with less than a half tank. It was 4 years ago. However, since I got the AM600 (03) MAF and the ECM reflashed, I have not had any MAF issues.

Thinking back, yes I was at WOT (going around someone on a dashed two-lane road), but I'm not sure how much fuel I had in the car.

I want to say just below half a tank.

The only thing I can figure that would cause the MAF to blow in those conditions would be the sudden change in air pressure causing a sharp change in current in the MAF which could fry the internals, I suppose.

Mine went at WOT. Scared the crap outta me! Haha. So I replaced it with an 01 MAF. So far so good, but that was only a month or so ago...

Guess I've been lucky. My car had 113,800 miles on it when I bought it (and appears to have the original MAF) and at 182,200 miles, I still have the same MAF. I do clean it 2-3 times a year with CRC MAF sensor cleaner.
