Oh joy!

The clunking under my car has been driving me nuts the last couple of months. Figured it was probably the D bushings on the anti-roll bar, but I couldn't see any visual problems with either one. Reading through some threads here, I found that the passenger side engine mount can mimic suspension clunks-and would probably explain the clunks on starting that only added to the VTC sprocket rattle. Had it checked last week and sure enough, the mount was bad. Had it replaced today and the clunking is completely gone! Plus the shifts are smoother because the engine isn't jerking around. Once whole side of the mount was shiny from rubbing on the bracket.

Anyway, don't overlook the engine mounts if you have a clunk in the front end.

The mount was around $140 (OEM) and labor was $90.

Was the clunking every time you stepped on the accelerator and took your foot off of it? Just trying to confirm mine. It clunks everytime I hit the gas, or let off the gas. Please tell me your issues are similar, cause everything else is pretty much brand new and upgraded.

Constant clunking over bumps, clunking every time I would start the car-thought the VTC rattle was getting worse, but now with the new mount my car is very quiet when I start it. I would hear some clunks on acceleration but nothing real consistent.

VQP0WER-yeah, about one hour. Not sure how long they actually worked on it since my son and I walked to a place for lunch (10-12 minutes or so each way) and we were there about 45 minutes. My car was pulled in before we left and was finished when we got back.

Where I live, I'm not allowed to do any work on my car beyond changing a battery or a flat so for right now, I am the mercy of the mechanic. At least I have a good one.

Another point I should mention-the engine being secured properly in the engine mounts almost acts like a 255 hp FSTB of sorts. Bad mount and you don't have the engine tying the front end together the way it otherwise does. The front end of the car feels noticeably tighter now.

i got my mounts changed out and what a difference. The front right and the transmission mount were busted. The other 2 were fine and i kept them just in case of anything. I ordered these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

Not sure if it'll help, but when my car would rattle every time I stepped on the gas (or let off abruptly) I checked under the car and found out my exhaust was banging against the cross-member. I had the hangers bent slightly and the banging was gone. My .02

I don't have a pronounced clunk, but your statement I've bolded made me wonder if I should get mounts(?) I would assume it would be about that time at ~122k?

If yours are fine, I wouldn't worry too much. I didn't start hearing the clunk until around 175k miles or so.

It's funny b/c I had the clunk a long time ago and it turned out to be my hood 'jumping' (y'know...after spending the money to upgrade the bushings, strut mounts, joints, etc.) lol

But my shifts always have been kind of rough (and I've never replaced my motor mounts)
