Removing Paint from Rims

Hi all,

I picked up a set of 03 SE rims that were painted blue and was hoping to remove the paint. I know they're not sanded so if I could get it down the the bare metal, i'd like to keep it that way instead of painting.

So far, I tried Klean-Strip Paint Stripper:

http://www.amazon.com/Klean-Strip-Pa.../dp/B000KKOR1S

I have tried the spray and the paste. While it did remove the blue paint, there's still a white-ish/gray-ish layer that seems more stubborn to take off.
Now, I'm a noob, but am I right in thinking that this is primer?

Anyways, It did a pretty decent job considering it costed a little over $6 a bottle, but about 80% of the 'primer' thing is still on there. Is there anyway that I can get rid of this easily?

Or is there another stripper I can use that will definitely rip off everything down to bare metal? I've heard of aircraft paint stripper, but know that it is pretty price, and at less than half the price, i decided to give this paint stripper i tried a shot.

I was also planning on trying the duplicolor paint stripper ($5 at pepboys), also a spray can. Has anyone had experience with out or any recommendations amongst the 3 options? Do the pastes work better than the sprays or vice versa?

Thanks

Maybe you can try heating it a little with a torch or heat gun or something?

Besides sanding the primer off, I don't know of anything that will take it off. And don't use a friggin torch or heatgun on it.

Agreed. I bought 4 spray cans of it way back in 97 to strip the paint off some rims of mine. Water soluble, cleanup easy, worked like a charm.

Is painting over the primer that's still on the wheels not an option? I've done that before, and my wheels turned out great.

Well i was hoping to just get off all the paint and primer and try to convert them back to stock. I ended up using the aircraft stripper and some elbow grease to get off the rest. Before starting, I did some research and found out 3 different strippers:

Klean Strip Premium Paint Remover
Aircraft Paint Remover (also by Klean Strip)
Dupli-color Paint Stripper

I was hoping to get some insight and possibly a comparison amongst the three and couldn't seem to find any. In the end, i ended up using the two Klean Strips.

In my opinion, the Aircraft worked better and faster. Hopefully, someone can give their opinon on the Dupli-color (only costed $5 for a can) and we can set up something that everyone can refer to.

I had to repaint a friends wheels that was spray painted. The stripper got most of it off but it doesn't always leave a smooth surface. We ended up getting a small sandblaster from sears and a bag of play sand. It worked real well

How much was the sand blaster? I'm very satisfied with how mine came out. This morning, I decided to try to wet sand them and they came out much nicer. A little more shiny, rather than the dull look it had before. I then polished it and it got even better . All four rims costed me $55.00 and the tools i used was another $25!
