whistling noise

ok so I got a set of headers and Y pipe from custom Maxima after the install during accelaration theres a whistling noise coming from around the flex section.. Does anyone have this problem or does anyone know the fix?? it doesn't seem to effect the perfromance in any way just annoying.

The install went on a 2002 3.5 no other work was done....

Sounds like the flex section could be leaking. Custom Maxima isn't exactly known for the highest quality parts...

Kind of OT, but did you notice any gains with the CM headers? How was the fitment?

Thanks Z and i understand they don't use the best parts but I picked up a 2002 SE 6MT for a good price and the pre Cats were bad so it was spend 400 to replace them or the 250 for the custom headers so i went with the headers and as for as any gains i didn't drive the car before the install and I'm new to the 3.5. I have a 2000 se auto and i do see a difference between the two...

^ I hear ya. I would have done the same thing. I asked about the fitment because I was actually thinking of ordering a set of CM headers.
If the whistling is really bothering you, maybe try taking it to an exhaust shop so they can confirm wether it's the flex pipe or not. I guess you'd have to replace it if it is.

Whistling is a result of a cheap flex section. Nothing's wrong at all.

OBX headers do the same thing.

You have two options, really...

Wrap the flex section in exhaust wrap, or have a shop weld on a more heavy-dute piece. Either one will pretty much eliminate the sound.

On a side note, I kind of like the whistle. I've had a lot of kids ask me if my car is turbocharged.

Dei heat wrap, wet it before applying, then use silicone spray to seal it from moisture damage.
