How many miles before replacing the timing chain?

I have a 2000 se and just replaced the upper intake gasket and passed emmissions,But after doing that I picked up spark plug ping.I have always burned regular gas without any problems or pinging,And yes I know all about the car liking premium so I tryed a tank of 93 octane and the ping was alot less but still there only under load like climbing a hill or a full car load of people. The car just hit 200000 miles and burns no oil at all.Well I am driving from Ct. to Florida and back in 7 days and I am wondering if the ping could be the timing chain going? If that goes on my trip I don't think it will ever make it back home because of the cost to have someone else fix it. I am handy have all the tools and do 98% of the work on the car.Do you people think it could be the timing chain at 200000 miles? Anyone have to do the timing chain on there Max?And what was your millage when it was done? Thank you . You guys rule.

The timing chain should last the usable life of the engine.

If using higher octane gas reduces the pinging, then the problem is timing, EGR or carbon build-up related.

Should just use premium all the time for the 20 cents more a gal. the gas will last longer anyway and maybe keep killing your pinging!!

ive actually heard as opposed to the belts the timing chains are required to be changed every 80k-100k miles but ive also heard they last as long as the engine

My understanding is:

Timing belts, which are rubber and have not been used in the VQ since 1994, every 80K miles.

Timing chains, which have been in the VQ since 1995, last the life of the engine.

Some have posted that they have found a Nissan Tech who will advance the timing on the side for alittle cash using the Consult II.
