Restore and Mod... you're going to have a lot of fun with that one.

What kind of engine are you going to put in there? Are you going to boost it like your Max? Wouldn't it be cool to see a brand new 3.7L Nissan engine there... but of course I have no idea what kind of engine could be customized to fit in that little car.

Whatever you do, glad to see you're still playing, Roy. Must be the Sin City Max just got played out, is all.

Swapping and modding a 3.7L into it would cost a fortune. I am leaning towards an SR20 or Supra motor. More durable and reliable this way. I want it running 8s when I'm done with it.

This S13 has a stock LS1. It runs 12s although it could be in the 10s with a little tuning. Regardless, this car is hot!

2JZ would be fun. Or even a 2RZ.

Oh... I see. You're going for the dragstrip with this project.

That would put you in the market for a nice Daily Driver. How about a de-modded, 2002 Maxima?

Yes, Pro Street. As far as a daily, I already have my 96 Lumina sedan that I use as a company car. Maybe my wife will want to drive the Maxima again. I will have to ask her.

Wait, wait, what's with all the hating on the KA (by talking about swaps)? KA makes more torque. Screw the SR20. Obviously, it needs built for more than 350 whp, but it really is a monster when built (600+ WHP). I find the tq curve impressive for a 4 banger.

I would only consider a dual cam KA.

If you put a touring lip on the max and a set of these it would be like a whole new car again and you would fall back in love

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Roy isn't asking for rice-advice on how to reverse a decision that's already being implemented.

It's not the rims... 6-spoke FTW, actually. Although I'm no fan of faux rivets.

It's the touring lip that earns the ricer award.

So difficult to tell when you're joking, Clash.

I am looking at it from a practical perspective and not from what everyone else and their mothers are doing or did in the past. Can you see where I am coming from?
If you want a durable and practical swap, do a LS-X. You can get a 5.3L with the required 5.7L accessories in the $350-700 range depending on the deals you find. The 6Ls are only 500-600 more generally. Swap kits for the 240s are reasonably cheap, and you'd be sitting at 320-360whp (depending on which displacement you end up with) and getting 25-30mpg (depending on trans choice) with just basic boltons and HPtuners. You can also boost it or spray it to 550-650whp before needing any kind of internals. Much cooler than a SR20 or KA imo! Screw brand loyalty, go with what works best. If you want to run 8s, you're going to need to do a massive dyno queen build on a SR20.... A 6L iron block LSX with internals and relatively large turbo (TC78ish, maybe more) will push 1000whp and get you low 9s or high 8s with proper traction, will not have a dyno queen power band, and will still be mild on the street.

I feel you on getting bored. I didn't do much to my maxima either, but I am already wanting to sell it for a V8 RWD Americn coupe.

I can relate to that. The best way to get rid of those feelings is to go out and actually test drive a few V8 RWD American coupes. Worked like a charm for me. There's so much more to the driving experience than horsepower, which is a nuance lost on the domestic car manufacturers.

As usual, thanks for the constructive info. But from a weight, durability and financial standpoint wouldn't a Supra engine be better? It is lighter, easier to work on and easier to tune and boost.
