P0138 Code-Sensor replacement-ECM reprogram?
Folks,
I would appreciate your advice on whether I need to reprogram the ECM when I replace the Bank1 Sensor2 with the OEM sensor. The dealer's instruction calls for reprogramming of the ECM when you replace the sensor. I don't understand why if I plan to install OEM sensor and nothing shall impact the original configuration, but I am not sure and would like you to share your experience. I hate to go to a dealer and can reset the trouble code with the OBD scanner.
Appreciate your reply.
Also, what is the best place to buy the OEM oxygen sensor?
Thank you

Frequently, the ECM-reprogramming in TSBs for the ones like the O2 update are for an updated calibration for turning on the check engine light, or fuel trims or similar. If it really has never been done, then it should be done, but it probably won't actually hurt you in the short term.
There's no need for the dealer, or anyone, to "reprogram" your ECM after replacing an O2 sensor.
The code might actually clear by itself after the ECM performs a couple of "drive cycles", but if you can clear it yourself with your OBD scanner, why wait?
