Exhaust Advice

I've been searching YouTube and this forum for help on which exhaust i should buy. I talked to the guy at Cattman and I kno that they dont make the 2.5" anymore. () I cant decide what to get. All the threads I found had other mods, I only have an intake. I want a stainless steel that sounds as close to stock as possible. I want to be able to hear my intake still I love the sound

I really dont want a Megan (too loud.. dont like the sound) and the Cattman 3" may be too loud, but I havent heard any sound clips on an unmodified max.

Thanks in advance.

Just get an axleback then as opposed to a full catback. Keep the stock b pipe. No matter what, itll get louder but not as loud as the latter.

I have a 2.5" Cattman Axleback installed on my 5.5. When this video was shot, there was no aftermarket intake. From inside the car, there was a nice mellow infiniti(ish) sound.

OP if you want to keep the sound relatively low, then get either a Greddy or Cattman system for subtlety and dont get headers/y.

I was advised against GReddy.. How does the 3" Cattman sound? Is there a big difference from that video that CustomLowz just posted?

You were advised incorrectly bruh. Greddy and Catmann are two of THE best sounding exhausts for a Max.

If you're looking for a dual tip full 2.5, it's Cattman, Megan, or custom. HKS has a dual tip axle back which will run you close to a full setup though.

People that want exhaust mods need to understand that some extra noise comes with this mod. If your just looking for a cosmetic enhancement of a smart looking outlet- just get exhaust tips on the OEM muffler set >.>

In all seriousness if your looking for an conservative sounding mod... Exhaust should not be your choice. Get the NWP spacers if you want to retain the stock sound.

Nothing is very loud on the stock headers/Y-pipe and cat. The Cattman 3" sounds very similar to the 2.5". He uses the same resonator/muffler, just in bigger sizes.

There are a few guys without headers/Y-pipe that have installed the cattman 3". Not many, though... Wish I could help, but I've had the headers on this car for almost 2 years and never looked back.

The OP has obviously stated that his exhaust needs replacing, and keeps stressing stainless steel suggesting that he's in a harsh climate.

OP I think you would be happy with the cattman 3" or the megan OE-RS on stock exhaust manifolds and cat converter. It will just add some actual sound to the exhaust. Even with the headers/Y-pipe, test pipe and 3" exhaust I can still hear the intake wailing over the exhaust in the cabin.

Another option is to buy one of the ebay 304 SS (I would go for Tsudo) exhausts for the piping and buy a good resonator and dual tip muffler + tips for an exhaust shop to install for you.

I have a frankencar axleback on my car, with a test pipe and custom b pipe with no resonator. It's barely much louder than stock, and you can still hear the intake scream. Makes the exhaust unnoticeable at WOT. From what I've heard it's very restrictive though...oh, and they don't make them anymore. But it looks great! If you don't want the noise factor, try to one of these used maybe?

I seem to remember standing right next to you and Brian Catts when he said the Frankencar dyno'd lower than the OEM exhaust. Quiet? Yes, pleasantly so. Attractive? Absolutely, it's one of the prettiest SS mufflers and tips ever made custom for our cars. But no gains, and no availability.

Get a Cattman 3", typically a properly designed resonator and muffler, with stock exhaust manifolds/Y pipe won't be loud on these cars.

+1, it also represents the most potential for modding down the line if you decide you want headers+Y and tune or any kind of FI

Well I have a Cattman 2.5" Catback in my small inventory....While I have the Cattman 3" installed on my "03" TE A/T.....If you're interested in hearing your intake just install a SRI, 2.5" Bpipe, and keep the Oem rear Muffler....Very quiet, torquey, super responsive, and is a very nice setup! There's a slight amount of drone in an A/T when installed w/a Cattman 3" in that 2000-2500 rpm range but when ****ed manually it exhibits a very beautiful exhaust note and you can avoid that slight drone area which seems to be only during cruise when stepping into the throttle slightly. See if you can find a used 2.5" Bpipe preferrably a Cattman brand....and you'll be happy with the results!

I'm not looking for a mod. I'm looking for an exhaust. My exhaust is rotted out and it needs to be replaced. i dont want to spend a crazy amount on stock just for it to rott out again due to the crazy winters. So Stainless is my only option. I dont mind a little extra noise, I'm dealing with it now cause its about to fall off lol.

imo megan oe-rs will get the job done the cheapest, cattman 3" if you don't like the megan.

I have a OEM catback in my small inventory.....To big to ship IMO....But you have a cheap alternative....NAPA's Bosal exhaust is an OEM replacement and inexpensive as hell:

That sounds perfect to me, but they don't make the 2.5" axleback any more.

I have the cattman 3" with stock manifolds (for now) and it's louder than stock but nothing obnoxious. As others have said, the only way our cars are "loud" is by removing the precats.

I have the 3in. At first it was loud but within the week when the carbon built up it got very quiet and still can hear the intake over the exhaust, don't have headers stuff in the sig and vid....
