Does it only occur after a wide open throttle run? IF so, it's slightly normal. The sulfer in the gas mixes with the stuff in the cats causing the sulfur smell. Also, brake fluid leaking onto a hot exhaust manifold can cause the same smell.

Mingo...are you serious?

The smell developed when I was in my driveway the other day testing for my chirp noise(mounts) I remember seeing the Nissan Field tech doing this procedure to show me the noise was "normal" yeah right..

Anyways he yanked up the ebrake and shifted thru all the gears in order to get the chirp to appear. The other night I did the same thing...I was probably idling for about 8-10 minutes, pulled up the ebrake and shifted back and forth thru all the gears a few times(my car is automatic) After I was done I could smell the rotten egg smell..

Did I just hose my tranny? Its not like I beat the crap out of it doing N drops or anything...just shifted gears a few times...

I tell ya...somethings never end...car seems to running and shifting fine....how do I check this?

I can see it now...

"Chirping mounts... rotten egg smell... yeah, thats normal. We designed them that way." At 30k miles when the wheels fall off and the engine explodes, thats going to be "normal" too.

its the cat...

not the tranny. easy enough to check tho, pull the dipstick and smell the tranny fluid. Mine is still clear and doesnt stink. kinda tastes like chicken... (ok, maybe a bit on the 'gamey' side)

could be bad gas too, but most likely its the cat converter. Intermitten funky sulphur smells. Had this problem for 11 years with an 89 Max. Smell occured about 4 ties a year or so. Bad thing is it happened on a date once. My car stunk, so I attributed it to the car in front of me lol. I never worried about it.

i remember that we've discussed smells of fluids in my auto class. it was either burnt gear oil that smells like sulfur or burnt tranny oil.. get a lil of both and burn em' and tell me what you smell. but if your cat is bad then you should smell a lil' gassy smell kinda like what you smell out of those hoopties. i say time to switch service dept.
