O2 sensors can go bad without throwing a CEL/MIL/SES. There are interesting articles on how they work, but, in brief, the older the plug, the lower the voltage it sends, the richer the car runs. And that's on top of Ghost's aforementioned "lazy" factor--the sensor gets so much crap on it, it can no longer change states the ~4-7 times a second the engine is looking for.

Having too much fun with the 6 speed right now to get great mileage but I do find myself going from 3rd to 6th a lot once I'm over 40.

Here's a stupid question:

Can you clean O2 sensors? Like, remove them and blast them with carb cleaner or something?

+1. If im around town on some of the main/faster streets I pretty much run through first and second quite quick and once im at the speed limit I'll just throw it in sixth. On the highway i usually do 75 with a fair amount of dropping it down to third, and mixed ive always gotten about 22-3 so Im pretty happy...All manual calculations to as my fuel sender unit is faulty and neither gauge nor readout work...
