factory 6 1/2 bose sub replaced be kicker 6 1/2 sub
Buddy of mine just graduated college out there in Oklahoma for upholstery and car audio and he has been shooting me ideas..
The bose in my gle is garbage since day one to begin with..
Sub cut out permanently and factory deck wouldn't ever play cds any more..
Went out and spent 45 bucks on another factory deck and now wanting some sort of bass..
Buddy of mine is a dealer through Kicker and he threw out the idea of tossing my factory sub and amp and just bolt up a 6 1/2 Kicker CVT with the new 150:1 or 300:2 Kicker amp...
Was wondering if anyone has done this and wanted the results of how it sounded..
Remember, this is a family car.. I don't want to be harassed by people saying screw 6 1/2 and go with 10s or 15s... I have 2 daughter that go everywhere with me...
Just tired of the normal bose slogan.. all highs and no lows...
Also, might be the wrong section but I am on my cell..

I'm pretty sure BOSE is 8" not 6.5". Anyhow...
Although I have aftermarket head unit, I installed a 10" Kicker in same opening (had to cut a bit out) and am using a Alpine amp. I have been pleased with the results.
Also to note: I did this because I also have two kids (currently 7 an 10) and wanted to keep full trunk.
Search under car audio threads. There are several pics of my install there...

The bose is mounted in an 8 inch area but in reality its more like a 6.5 inch sub as OP stated. I'd take off the bose cover, pull the sub and test out to see how the kicker sounds.
Its hard to make any real bass without some sort of enclosure. In the long run you might be better off with some way of making a small enclosure mounted under the deck for whichever setup you go with.

I replaced my Bose sub with an 8 inch Image Dynamics sub.
Sucked.
It made more rattles than anything, as the rear deck is far too flimsy to support any real massive sub woofer.
Also, the sub was not designed to be run in such a large enclosure (the entire trunk).

got the kicker amp early yesterday and installed it later in the day but wired it into the bose sub and sounds like it did before the factory amp went but with a little more bass...
getting the kicker sub today and wiring it in...
if i dont like the sub, buddy of mine will just give me a 10 inch kicker comp with a spec box...
all in all, it was worth spending the $130 then how ever the stock sub and amp is....

I just made my own custom pedestal and glue on some matching carpet, then installed 2x10" Rockford Fosgate subs ... by pulling them up in the opening in the trunk, as you can see there is lots of trunk room left when you pull them up onto the ledge. You will require a pedestal similar to the one I constructed so the subs sit level, I also used two mounting strips on the sides of the sub box and attached them to the pedestal so the subs can not move forward at all.

installed the kicker amp on the bose sub and sounded decent...
like others have said, alot of rattling..
awaiting for time to make a trim plate for the 6 1/2 kicker...
the wood should deaden some rattle..

Little on how I wired it..
Bought a crossover (one thats up to spec with our factory bose deck)
Wired it before the bose amp so right behind the factory deck...
Ran RCA cable to the back...
Fished 4-6 gauge power wire though fender well, zip tied along with the factory wiring harness, through door sills...
Tapped the ground on the far left corner of the read deck with self tapping screws...
Pulled the factory amp connector and found a remote wire lead...
Temp. screwed a wooden pallet wrapped in factory GM black cloth then bolted down the amp and wired everything in...
BTW the sub is not bridged..
The Kicker 100.2 wired up to the stock bose sub does hit some what harder then the stock amp but the kicker amp has a anti knock sensor (detects when a sub is bottoming out) and shuts off for about 10 seconds...
The Kicker CVT sub should arrive in the next day or so..
If it doesn't bolt up, I have a mounting bracket already made to drop in..
It simple, easy, and cheap on your wallet if you just got laid off...

next is to reglue inside and out, wrap it and mount the amp on the box for added weight.. the grab a few yards of dynamat and lay it all on the deck, trunk, fenders, and spare tire well
if not happy, will just rip the 6 1/2 out and fab a box up for a 10 inch kicker comp...
either that or a single L7
