Opinion on Borla muffler?

Ok after a long search for a replacement OEM muffler for a reasonable price I gave up. My resonator is shot and my rear muffler is complete rusted out. I already have a 2.5 inch resonator form a different project that still sits in the box, but I need to make up my mind on the muffler. So far I have set my mind on Borla, just wanted to see if anyone used on the maxima before? I found a few videos and I think it sounds really good.
What do you think?
Here is the muffler I am looking at:

A long search that you gave up on? Not sure how you didn't find the walker quiet flow stock replacement.

I've heard a number of Borla mufflers over the years, and they always sound sweet. If you can make it fit, you'll have a winner. Notice the inlet is centered, whereas the inlet on most mufflers for our cars is offset.

I know the oem is offset, but i spoke to my local muffler shop and they will put everything for for about 50-60 bucks.... including a new pipe to the rear muffler

I was always interested in the Borla #40670 but the engineer sent me a mechanical drawing of that muffler which is just like your 40348 single in/dual out....and the dual tip-to-tip on centered distance was too great (5") compared to Cattman's (3.5") on tip to tip on center spacing! I didn't think I would like a 2" space between my tips nor would my rear valance! But the dimensions are rather close to Cattman's rear mufflers...the Borla should be 19" x 4" x 9.5"!!! Weird thing is I couldn't find that P/n in BORLA's database.......but several ProXS are on Summit site......I'll email the Borla engineer to see what the differences are between the TurboXL & ProXS....

Cattman has a center inlet....cause it's a straight thru design...most reverse flow mufflers are offset....

Bosal from NAPA is a good OEM replacement, it's virtually identical

That is my only concern, about the space between the outlet tips... but I am thinking may be a nice set of tips will solve that problem.
I would not mind getting a Cattman but for $100 bucks, I dont think I wil be able to find just the muffler

ya dude just keep searching the forums something might pop up on the classifieds and you might b able to find just a muffler section thats catmann. Or if you don't want to wait IMO i would just go w/ the BORLA, they make quality exhausts.

I measured the OEM exhaust cutout on the rear valance and it measured 8" so I stand corrected......twin 3" tips will fit somewhat in the cutout.....with a 2" spacing between them and that's exactly a 5" tip to tip on center measurement.....I'm interested in the 40670 because it's inlet is 3" and splits immediately into 2 x 2.25" perforated tubes that are 16" long ea.....either this or the 40349 would be awesome for my 3" Cattman, so far I know that the ProXS are baffled and the TurboXL aren't....

I am sure probably I will be able to get a nice set of 3" tips after that...
I am not sure that the inside split is in the muffler...

I'm not sure about the ProXS series, But I have the pdf file mechanical drawing from a Borla engineer regarding the TurboXL p/n 40670 and it's very similar to the Borla website drawing but it all the info concerning every little item to the T:

Wow that stock muffler does look good....
After some more research today I am also considering the Megan Muffler

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MEGAN...Q5fAccessories

the price is the same, but the megan comes with the muffler tips already on it...
Any opinion on the megan? I hope its not too loud/rices sound?
I just want something with low deep sound...

If you still have stock headers/Y and a main cat, it's very hard to get it too loud. Add headers and it would be worrisome.

Well the car already has the warpspeed Y-pipe, it came with, I had no idea how well looked after that part is on this site until I actually started some research about it... I guess I am just lucky to have it
As far as the megan muffler they don't really give you that much info about dimensions

http://meganracing.com/product_detai...d=385&catid=21

I would love to have the borla, but then I am starting to think that the offset between two pipes will be too big and will just look king of funny even with some nice muffler tips...

but the one in the video is a single in/out model, I would still love to have a single in dual out muffler
Does anyone know if megan sells just the axle back muffler with or without the pipe?

The Megan is a center inlet as well! If you go with the Borla or Megan, you'll need to have them fab the piping for the last Bpipe flange anyway ( Just FWD of the rear axle beam on the r/h side) and make them use a 2 bolt flange as well.....don't let them cut and weld your **** up then you'll have too cut it if you ever need to move it out of the way for maintenance...and yes Megan muffler body is 14" x 5" x 8" I was informing you not asking you......GL

the reason why I am looking for a new muffler is b/c the previous owner replace the back muffler with an after market OEM style muffler with the pipe, now the rear muffler is so rusted that one of the hinges broke and also the connection between the two pipes is also shot... The only oem piping on the car is the center resonator with the pipe to the point where it connects to the rear muffler. My shop will actually make a new piece to connect the rear muffler so even of the off set is center or not it makes no difference. He will charge me $50-$60 to weld a new resonator, bent a new rear muffler pipe and also attach the rear muffler. All I need to bring to him is the resonator and the rear muffler. He will fabricate the new pipe to connect the new muffler to the exhaust system...

I spoke to Don Cozza @ Borla today and he stated that the ProXS is a new line they're doing and some of the names of their product will be changing....The $99 ProXS I believe use to be the TurboXL since they're the same exact size and configuration but different pricin....., I'll be mocking up one to see how it sounds on Cattman 3" real soon!
