RWD VK56VD
RWD VK56VD
So i posted this thread before but somehow it got closed and i couldnt reply to my own stuff. Messed up right? Anyways heres the body of it.
So im starting to compile my list of parts for a RWD V8 swap on my 01 maxima. At this point i have a line on a new VK56VD but now am trying to decide what platform i want to use for the rear end. Was thinking about possibly using a rear setup out of a J30, 300zx or 350z just to stay with the nissan family. Was also considering putting a solid rear with custom 4 link, only issue with that is i would like to have a fully independent rear. Fab work and parts are not an issue for me, im just trying to get ideas on what to put in the rear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Oh i forgot its probably getting a Jerico 5spd
Had some other guys post on the other one so i have some answers.
The purpose of this build is mainly just because i can haha, i also work for Street Wise Drift so i will probably be sliding it, and its nice to have a one off car. So far i have the time and i need one more year in the industry to qualify for my Master ASE certification so i have the background in mechanics as well as a background in fabrication and welding. I also live in Mooresville NC which many of you may know is the race city USA so i can get a hold of basically anything i need. The only thing slowing me down is money, i have a decent amount to go towards this project but im sure its not enough. I dont plan on having this complete in just a few months, it will be, at the least, over a year.
As far as the comment about the motor over the front axles, i plan on pushing it back in the engine bay as far as possible. I will already be making room for the transmission so modifying the firewall isnt a big deal.
Oh and im not going to use the stock ECU for this build. I plan on running a stand alone ECU due to the fact that i absolutley hate fly by wire throttle control!!!!!

See i dont understand why people think it is so rediculous. The J30 is basically the same car with a VG30 which is only a few inches shorter than a V8. If i run a slim radiator with fans on the front pushing through then i should have a decent amount of room.
I don't think it's rediculous, it's actually pretty cool. BUT people constantly post threads like this and it never actually gets finished and 95% of the time it never gets started. Do I think you'll do this? Haha absolutely not.
im not gonna doubt you bro... you can do anything you put your mind and $$$ too... now i would really love to see this done.... i cant wait for the day nismo uses a FWD VQ37 (if they ever did) and somebody finds a way to get it to fit into the maxima... i dream for the day i hear of a VQ37 4th or 5th gen

i will also be doing this swap if they ever did... the closest thing to a VQ37 was the 7th gen... apparently there will be no VQ37 as the maxima wouldve gotten that motor with that platform... unless they choose to do it like they did the 5th and 5.5, where the 7.5th gen would have a vq37 but seeing as though its already competing with all its competition i doubt we will be seeing that...
The VK56VD is a 5.6 L (5552 cc) 32-valve, DOHC, Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) aluminum-alloy V8 and features Nissan's advanced VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift System). The direct injection system provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance by reducing engine knock, improving combustion stability and controlling injection more precisely. In the Infiniti M56, it is rated at 420 hp and 417 ft·lb of torque. They turn 7800 rpm. I do tint work for lake norman infiniti down here. The M56 is like you took a caddy and put a corvette motor in it
Plus the VK56DE is what is run in the new Nissan GT-R GT1, producing 600 hp and 479 ft·lbf

Lots of welding and custom fitting, but there is an idea - put chassis from g35 and 5.6 engine on it. Sounds like a bit easier way... but i know it just sounds that way. You need huge investments to make this project come true
ive seen the similar done twice, Big E Dog doing his RWD 2nd gen and Maxxkid with his RB26 RWD 4th gen
i cant see this being done, Big E Dog knows his stuff and already was the first to TT a 2nd gen in FWD form and hes no stranger to custom work so i have no doubts he will finish the RWD conversion
honestly if you want to do something just pick up a 1st gen and RB26 swap it, enough people have done RB20/25 in first gens that can help and you already have a car that was designed for RWD etc

Am I the only one that caught this post? I hope you didn't mean that the J30 is the same as a maxima...
No their not the same, but when it comes to wheel base and vehicle design they are very similar. Meaning the rearend out of that should be the easiest of all to swap, not that it will be easy.
+1 I've put a lot of thought and research into this, I always wanted to do a RWD conversion. Out of all the possibilities, the J30 is definitely the closest match and would be the easiest to swap in. You can probably also find a cheap J30 with all the parts you need in a junkyard while G35/350z parts will be much more expensive and harder to swap.

Cadillac already put a corvette motor in there cars and that would be known as the cts-v
also best to say Infiniti J30 because J30 is the 3rd gen Maxima chassis code
all im saying is i call this swap not being done, if it gets done and running with proof i will draw whatever the OP wants on me with a Sharpie and post it on YouTube
