Do you have a VG-powered or VE-powered 3rd Gen?

My 4th is at like 246k with no problems. My uncle had a 3rd gen that went well over 500k before he got tired of it and gave it away and it still had original engine and transmission functioning perfectly. Blew my mind.

Old Faithfull 218,000 and still going...

My 1994 3rd is at 218,000. I got her with 24,000 on her. I'm just starting to put around 1000 miles every two weeks on her because my job is 300 miles from my home. I'm commuting every other week so I'll probably continue to put some heavy miles on her.
Like others have said, I've just recently started replacing things not waiting until they completely broke so as to leave me stranded. Some of the most recent things have been the power steering rack, head gaskets, wheel cylinders, and struts just to name a few things.
She doesn't look to good on the outside but I've kept her up fluids wise so internally she is great. She still runs strong with no leaks anywhere. I still have the original engine and tranny (auto).
Things like the injectors, plug wires, and most if not all on anything that has to do with starting the car has been replaces within the last 50k. I finally replaced the original altenator but she still has the original starter.
I'm hoping I get to 250,000 or 300,00 before the tranny goes or something else happens.
When the tranny goes I'm going to have to really consider probably just junking her because the cost to fix it could be put into another newer car but I'll make that decision when the time comes.

[QUOTE=NissanTun3r;8027275]Simple question, assuming one did all regular maintenance on time(oil, plugs, etc...) how long do our engines last, on average?[/QUOTE

Just say no, CVT is garbage. Buy an infiniti with regular automatic.

And holy necro.

My 2003 Infiniti I35 has 175,000 miles on it. I recently replaced the PITA timing chain tensioner and guides. The car runs better now than it has ever been. The only car issue that has not been fixed is the oil leak at the rear main seal. Based on reading this forum, it is not worth the effort to try to repair the leak. I like to keep the car for at least another 50,000 miles. Like others have mentioned, at this age of the car, things do eventually wear out and need replacing. But if you like to tinker with cars, and it is a hobby, then it beats having a car loan payment. I replaced the AC compressor a couple of years ago. Until my most recent timing chain cover removal project, the compressor was my most complex project.

Valve clearance needs adjusted, probably. They definitely go out of spec at high miles and become noisy. You should hear the difference between high mileage 3.0 and 3.5.
3.0 will make a huge racket revved up while the 3.5 is silent. That said, it shouldn't affect reliability (enough to matter for typical life of car). I never adjusted my sister's 3.0 and it was noisy for 70k till she totaled it, again (260k mi).

If it doesn't get louder with revs and is just a distinct ticking, then it's the injectors (assuming you hear it when every cylinder fires). That's really common. They get loud enough that people think engine is failing lol

210k+ miles so far. Pulled it out of my 03 and dropped it into my '99 as is... Gonna try some snake-oil **** (that nano crap and 10-40w) to keep it alive longer because I do not give a F' about this motor.

It probably could survive longer if I actually tried and cared.

I'm currently at 296,000 on my 2000 SE and will top 300K miles within the next 60 days. I bought it used, one owner, in 2004 and have used Mobil 1 for every oil change. I have no leaks, no oil burning, engine is very strong and at times, achieve higher MPG than officially rated at (21/26MPG). I also use synthetic transmission and brake fluids. As some others stated, I believe the engine will outlast most other components if properly maintained. Also, this is my 3rd Maxima and was at 274K on my 1987 before one ran into it and was subsequently totaled. I was at 197K on my 1995 GLE before it suffered the same fate as my 1987.
