Gabriel Ultra ReadyMount Shocks/Struts Review

Suspension feel is subjective so I'll provide some context for myself, history of vehicle suspension, etc before providing my thoughts on the Gabriel Ultra ReadyMount line of shocks/struts for our vehicles. Feel free to jump to the third paragraph is you do not care for context. I'm 48, owned my 2000 SE since 2004, and while it is no longer my primary vehicle, I've kept it as a spare as it is in great shape and I still very much enjoy driving it. Through the years I've had Nissan replace all the shocks/struts with original OEM parts, I've replaced them myself with KYB GR-2's using stock SE springs, replaced SE springs with MOOG springs using existing KYB GR-2's, replaced MOOG springs for original stock SE springs, and lastly, replaced all with the Gabriel Ultra ReadyMount series of shocks/struts.

While the KYB's were still functioning correctly, I've not been pleased with the suspension feel with them when combined with either the stock SE springs nor the MOOG springs. With either combination, the ride was too 'active', meaning it felt like the vehicle was actually shifting left or right when encountering something as small as an expansion joint on an interstate. One could say that the KYB/Stock SE spring combination was just too stiff for my taste. I know several on here rave about their experiences with the KYB's and I'm not saying they are wrong as again, I believe suspension feel is subjective to the individual.

And to the review of the Gabriel Ultra ReadyMounts. The visual inspection of the products revealed what appears to be quality products, some may say premium. Installation was as easy as I expected with no hiccups. As to the ride....no unusual noises, and for the first time in a very long time, I felt I had replicated what Nissan had intended for my vehicle. I was very happy with how much smoother my SE was driving on local roads and the interstate. The ride is still firm yet much more comfortable. Plus, although I was expecting some minor loss of cornering, I've so far found this to be inaccurate. Frankly, I believe it handles the curves better now than the KYB/SE springs. I'm only at 300 miles on the new setup so I cannot speak to longevity, but I can say that Gabriel did a good job engineering the ride for these for the 5th Gen Maxima. I took a neighbor on a ride with me for close to 200 miles and even he volunteered how smooth my Maxima was and this neighbor has been in my vehicle several times across the years. Here's an interesting bit of information regarding Gabriel warranty. While Gabriel states these have a lifetime warranty, they also officially state in their documentation that warranty claims go through the retailer from whom you purchase their products (Amazon, Summit, Autoanything, etc). When I tried to validate this through Amazon and Autoanthing, they both claimed that Gabriel was incorrect. I called Gabriel directly and they re-enforced that warranty is indeed through retailer for lifetime of the product. Only Summit Racing agreed with Gabriel so this, paired with them price matching to lower supplier, led me to order through them and at a great price ($324 pre-tax).

Time will be the judge if I continue to recommend these for our vehicle but assuming they do not fail in an unreasonable time, I do not foresee my stance changing.
