Megan Exhaust Video

OK as promised, here is a video to hear the sound of the Megan Catback with a stock cat. I'll replace it with a test pipe this WE and post another video like this one for comparison.

Other mod is a short ram air intake.

That's great! Now how about one from inside the car cruising between 2k & 4k b4 you put the pipe in?

Ok, I'll take a video from the cabin today before installing the test pipe. At cruising speed, you can really hear the exhaust, but at WOT, the intake becomes louder than the exhaust, especially over 3.5k rpm.

The damn bolts on the converter don't want to come off... I sprayed the hell out of them with PB blaster, and tried to loosen them, but there is just no way they're coming off...

I need a torch to heat them up, or I need to drill them out... Damn I was hoping it wouldn't be that hard.

Here are two vids from the cabin.

3rd gear pull at WOT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSk0nl55OiU

5th-6th-4th-3rd sound at cruising speed. about 2/3rd throttle except WOT in 3rd video taken with a digital camera so the sound quality isn't that great, and the camera microphone didn't pick up the low frequency sound of the drone...

Seems like a lot of drone. Is the Megan that loud inside? I have an eBay ss cat-back and it sounds nothing like that. Most of time, it's almost unnoticeable...

That's because he kept accelerating slightly. Would have been better to hold it at one speed (like 70-75 which is inline with the speed limits here on the freeway) to be able to gauge if the sound level is low enough for long road trips.

That was not the CEL. It's the low washer fluid level light

If I'm doing 70mph in 6th, there is no drone, unless I press the gas pedal more than 1/2 way down, then it's very loud

If you have stock exhaust manifolds the test pipe won't really make a huge difference. Exhaust sounds good though.

I know, I'm just doing this to compare the sound between stock cat and test pipe.

I'm not expecting more than a half horsepower gain... However, at 110k mikes, it may restore the lost horsepower caused by an old and dirty catalytic converter...? My engine burned oil through the PCV for about 20K miles until I finally added a catch can. It already destroyed a precat that I had to replace, so I imagine it also probably damaged the main cat...

I think he means it won't change the sound much. With the stock exhaust, I noticed no added noise and zero rasp when I replaced the main cat with a test pipe.

Yeah......The Law did a real good job @ holding a speed like 60-65, then 65-70, then 70-75.....not jumping around that 2000-2500 drone zone as Gizmo did.......hold your speed then move up to the next zone (each in 6th gear).......

I made a video yesterday. 6th gear @ 70mph with cruise control on. The first 20sec or so of the video is flat surface so no drone. The last 15sec of the video is a slight uphill grade, then the drone becomes more present in the cabin. But here again, my camera didn't pick up the low frequency sound so the video won't let you hear much drone...

props, the exhaust sounds both sporty and sexy , i wonder how they would sound on 2000 SE with 3.0L engine, finally how much did this set you back?

The exhaust cost me $350 shipped and I paid a local shop $45 to install it, so roughly $400 total.

^^ ^^

Besides air intake and catback, I don't have any mods to gain HP so of course it's not going to be super fast. If I had headers, spacers, BOP etc... then it would pull much better...

And for info, the vid was taken at 3200ft altitude and the outside temperature was close to 80 degrees so it hinders performance...

I don't know how true this is, but according to this website http://www.wallaceracing.com/braking-hp.php

"Your BHP loss computed from your BHP of 255 at sea level and Elevation of 3200 feet is 24.48 HP loss."

So if this is true, the altitude alone made my car loose about 10% of its power...

Thanks for posting the videos. I'm ordering my Megan catback tomorrow but it's nice to hear another clip of it before I do.
