Is it necessary to drain the gear oil when changing the clutch on a 2k2 ?
Hello,
I am about to do the clutch this week on my 2k2 with 123k miles and although I will order Redline Mt85 gear oil , but was wondering is it a MUST to drain the transmission oil before remving it and doning the clutch ? and if yes , WHY ? by the way my current gear oil is Amsoil 75w90 which I hated so much ...
Thanks

It is not absolutely necessary, but you'll find it less frustrating to do it. As soon as you have those shafts out and tilt the transmission to get it out, you'll find that it would have been better to drain it instead of having it all over you and the floor. A quart of oil always seems like a drum of oil when you have to clean it up. It's not worth the hassle. Only takes a few minutes to drain it.
