Motor mounts inquires ....
Motor mounts inquires ....
Dear orgers,
Sorry if this was asked many times , but the time frame does make difference in parts availability and accumulated experience...
So ..... I will have the manual transmission mount (front LH) replaced with OEM one from courtesy nissan......Now for the rest of them , I do feel vibrations with speed sharp turns and so , which makes me believe that mounts may need some love and cash
.... The one infront of the radiator seems to be widened a lil bit,the passenger side mount rubber is cracked inside , although they look clean from the outside , car now sits at 123xxx miles (I don't know what was done before the 118k miles)
1.Is it a better idea to have the mounts out and replace the rubber with ES bushings or order new ones from DaveB or courtesy nissan ? would the ES bushings do a good job like the new OEM replacement ?
2.Would you bother with the front and rear first or do the sides first ? I heard some say the side mounts don't really go bad
thanks

don't bother putting the OEM replacements in...get the ES Polyurethane mounts! I just installed mine a 2 days ago...LOVE THEM!!
as far as the side mounts, replace both the driver side(trans mount) and the passeger side(timing side mount). It is best to replace all if they are all messed up. You can get some rather decent trans and timing mounts on Ebay or at your local shop. No need to stick with NISSAN parts for motor mounts b/c by now they are not covered by a patent anymore i believe, and soooo many places build and retail them.
You will actually SAVE $$ if you purchase the ES mounts, and install them yourself
...with enough patience and a decent set of tools you can do almost everything on your car yourself and save $$$$.
check my link above my sig for my most recent project with motor mounts and CV axle alignment for lowered Maxima's!! I just took a break from Fabricating the parts to check the ORG

So "aftermarket" mounts OR OEM mounts filled with ES inserts ? which will yield better results ? and what brand would you consider best ?

I only need the passenger side (I have a 6spd)
Im looking at the site above and its misleading and hard to understand - I think theyre all for automatic unless I missed a number from 1-84 there -
I only need the passenger side and im confused as to when they say front and rear...
Thanks for your help

One Engine mount (located on pass fender)
Two Torque mounts ( below engine on front near radiator and rear near firewall)
One Trans mount (located on Drivers fender under intake piece)
The ES bushing are for the Torque mounts.
One clarification, but since Sterling has a 6MT, it's a moot point.
I know this is not exactly related to your post

I just replaced my upper passenger side motor mount and it solved a clunking noise that occured when I went over bumps. If you try and replace this motor mount do not use the one available from Auto zone because the holes will not line up ( I have a 2002 SE AT). I purchased the Beck/Arnley from Rock Auto and it lined up perfectly. I did have to jack the motor up about an inch for everything to line up though. To support (adjust) the engine just place a piece of plywood or a 2x4 under the oil pan and use a floor jack.
I also had a rattle but that was the exaust heat shield that rusted loose.

I fill mounts with Polyurethane resin, either 80a or 94a hardness (your choice) for $75ea for a SOLID FILL,plus shipping WITH YOUR MOUNT they come out very well, $20 more and I'll strengthen the welds TIG welded not MIG welded and re-paint them. If you cant have a week of down time I can source you an aftermarket core and then fill it
I have a set of ES polly mounts for sale , 100$ and they are yours.
I havent had a chance to make a for sale thread yet. shot me a PM if you interested.
will fit 95-01 but i think 02-03 these mounts are the same aswell .
(sorry for the camera phone pic)
