LED tail signal install - fail so far.

Ordered these new LEDs for my signals.

Installed them both, and was having issues. If both installed, when i press the brakes every light in the car turns on. I know that there should be a extra resistor installed in the tail light harness. Anyone know the type of resistor, how to install, etc etc.

I tried searching on the forum, had no luck. I would appreciate it !!
Thanks

I always get the flasher module ^

Way cleaner of an install and allows for 4 LED bulbs.

Regardless of the relay or resistors, none of the dash lights should be turning on?

The resistors are so you can use the stock turn signal flasher, not having them has nothing to do with your problem. What I think is happening is that when you step on the brakes, the electricity is somehow feeding into the other wires. Remove the led lamp and very carefully compare the base of it with the regular lamp you took out. Make sure that the little wires on the base are perfectly straight and not touching another wire.

re

The lights arent coming on anymore because i put the stock bulbs back in until the resistors come.

Now im getting a bulb out error on my dash. I think i replaced one of the LLs with a regular bulb (as LL are used for brake lights)

So just need a resistor, and a wire cap to do the trick ? any side-effects or anything cautionary i should know ?

Just splice, twist, and connect ?

Sounds to me like you put them in the brake light location, or the brake AND the signal, not JUST the signal location.

And great advice to get the Relay, dumb to install resistors IMO, buy the flasher unit.

Buying the resistors would be a cheaper alternative than spending $30 on flasher units alone...unless they can be purchased for cheaper

Yes that's all, but you should've waited for a cheaper link, http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm

Yea, I bought them from this website as well. I used to get hyper flash when I had my led turn signals. You will need two (one for driver and passenger.) I just tap them into the signal wires from the trunk because it has more room (both wires should be behind the gas door in the trunk), tap one side of each resistor to each signal wires and just ground the other side to the chasis for ground.

Resistors seldom work. You will still get the Burned bulb light.

The link was actually for the Relay, I guess the resistors are at the bottom of the page.

Im getting the burned bulb light right now because one of my brake lights actually did go out (bulb is burnt)

The flasher relay, do you only need one of them ? and i guess they just replace the stock unit, right ?

Should i go ahead and get the flasher unit ? it will be a easier install, but it shouldnt mess up anything right ?

LMK
Thanks

I have an LED flasher module for my set up. It is a cleaner and better way to have LED brake/turn signal bulbs. It doesn't mess anything up.

+1, exactly what he said, it's plug n play, no splicing. Although the tick is a bit louder than stock and the signal speed is a tad bit faster than stock, but no hyper flashing.

Ok. I think i might just buy the flasher unit. Id rather have my wires intact rather than them being cut up etc. Which flasher unit should i get ?

Also, only need one, right ? Also, in the relay, where does this fit ?

Thanks !!

You need to get a Maxima (Nissan) LED Flasher. Ebay/google shopping will have them. It takes the place of your factory flasher unit which is near your steering column above the drivers feet area. Removing the lower part of the dash with two phillips screws gives you a clear view, though I was able to replace it without doing that.

Ummm, nope. You can get LED flashers for under $5 off ebay, and local part stores for under $16.

Resistors you can purchase cheaper, yes, but they will overheat and burn things, to buy the PROPER resistors you need the ones that have a heat sink board with cooling fins, etc. Those are at least $8 each, not to mention the extra wiring, mounting, and so on. Silly way to do it when you can just get a flasher module for so cheap, and it's so easy to replace.

There really isn't any argument... just get the Flasher.

Yes. that is the exact place where I got mine, and the exact flasher module I got.

re

Would you mind posting a video of your lights flashing...i would highly appreciate it. Ill take this over the resistors (already ordered them =( ) because you can change all the bulbs without adding anything additional.

Thanks !!

Won't be able to do that. But google some videos up or go on youtube. The bulbs I used were from vleds.com (Local Washington State Seller.) great stuff.

re

Now one more small question, If you do it with the resistors, does it alter the flash rate ? make it better/worse or stay the same ?

Thanks again.

With the resistors, flashing rate and sound will stay the same since your not changing the flasher module. I've installed some on my fathers front signals on his F150 about 4 yrs ago, still flashing normal.

It was for me when I did it. However, this was the 4th car I've done it to and I didn't struggle as much as the OP.

1. Buy LEDs
2. Buy LED flasher module
3. Install bulbs like you would normally install any replacement bulb.
4. Replace factory flasher module with LED Flasher
5. Enjoy

Actually, the work wasnt hard at all. it was quite easy. i thought it would be much more complicated, but its simple. I got the quick splice connectors which worked out great.

Next project will be the brake tail lights.

*Facepalm*

Those things should be illegal. Because you've only used them in the trunk, you should be ok, but still.... horrible. Not as bad as the guys that use them in the engine bay and exterior locations.

Please, please, please, never use scotch locks

OAN I'm sure those look better in person, I didn't intend to sound mean or anything I realize it came across that way, they just look pretty much the same from the vid...
