Gas filling up and overflows all the time?

Anyone else have this problem?! My 2k never had this issue but my 2k1 does. When I fill up and when it cuts off my filler, it overflows onto my damn paint with gas. I try to not let it do it, but it just happens. My paint is starting to degrade under the gas tank filler, its not shinny anymore. I might need to go get it professionally buffed, but I want to prevent this from happening... Any ideas?

Russ, this happens all the time with my Monte. My advice is to keep a small rag in the trunk, or borrow one from the gas station. Put the nozzle in the filler neck, then fold the rag up and leave it on the lip underneath the pump handle. If any gas spills out, it'll hopefully be absorbed by the rag, and not into your paint.

Good luck!

You could do that or figure out how many gallons your tank holds then figure out how much gas you want to put in from there. I don't completly think its the car's fault though. Do you go to the same pump all the time, cause its the pump that detects when to stop, so maybe there is a problem with the pump? I don't know just a idea

Re: Gas filling up and overflows all the time?

A few suggestions:

1) When setting the auto-pump leever, don't use the fastest setting.

2) Angle the nozzle differently --more to the right or left or even completely upside dowm.

3) Try a different gas station with a different pump manufacturer.

4) Pray to Allah, since the oil for the gas probably came from one of his countries...

I'm with RussMaxManiac .... Never had this problem with my Altima (traded in two months ago for a 2k1 Max SE)at the same pumps I'm overfilling at now. I assumed this was a design oversight but if it's only affecting a few of us maybe it's time to yell at the dealer!

could this be a manufacture defect?

Maybe you should take it to the dealer, maybe something is wrong with the gas tank

If you have tried diffrent pumps, and there are multiple people having the same problem, then there is clearly something wrong with the car and you should inquire the dealer about it. Thats a problem which needs to be solved.

Don't Top It Off

This happened to me a couple of times right when I first got my 2K2. Then, I realized that I couldn't "top off" the tank, because it would cause it to overflow. Since I stopped "topping off" I haven't had any spills . . . good luck!
