My clutch burned out recently any recomandations for boost ones a such as turbo

want a long active clutch strong stage 3 or 3+ and flywheel thank you guys.

I just installed my clutch masters stage 1 with fidanza flywheel. I love the way it grabs, and fell like the light flywheel helped low end power . But the chatter is bad.

If it doesnt get better with break in im considering even removing my polly motor mounts and going back to stock its so bad...

 

whats the diference between unsprung and sprung clutch disc and which stage company is it. How long did you had since install.

The clutch masters stage 1 how long you had it since install. I know for sure that each stage is different material i heard some good news with carbon material clutchs since they are flywheel and transmission friendly.

 

anyone else who might have stage 3 or 3+ clutch and pressure plates.

it only has about 2-300 miles on it since the install...

 

I'm just trolling. I just have a Fidanza Alum Lightweight FW, and stock 350z clutch, stock 6mt pp, good enough for my current power level.

But seriously if you really plan on having a serious setup, I would look into what I just said lol.

 

I have the Exedy Stage 1 and the Fidanza and have only 250 miles on it, but no chatter whatsoever.

 

I had a exedy stage 1 before and it was smooth, but felt like a stock clutch and didnt grab hard at all.
Only lasted 10k n/a I dont think it would of held up very long on a boosted max...

 

what kind of torque numbers are you putting down? helps narrow down your options

Pretty much any clutch that has "pucks" is going to have some chatter.
Street disks are probably not going to give you much if any chatter.

Unsprung = very very little friction zone on the clutch pedal
Sprung = Like stock friction zone

Just get a street disk with a heavy duty pressure plate and you'll love it. Just make sure you go by Torque goals rather than HP, because that's what clutches are rated by. -- if you're hoping to make 350wtq, then get a clutch that can hold more than 350wtq....


A stage 5 from ACT will probably hold a different torque rating than stage 5 from clutchmasters...


Stages don't mean anything really.

 

My Clutch masters stage 1 is not a puck style, its a normal disk. Still chatters like hell..

Ive driven my buddies max with a ACT stage 1 before and the chatter wasnt as bad..

But If you plan on making 400whp your going to have to take some chatter.

hmm... I know my six puck clutch gave me tons of chatter, but my new clutch which is a street disk with a heavy duty pressure plate is like butter and holds more power.

It could be that it didn't break in properly, i've heard of chatter issues in that case. Same with things like motor mounts being too soft, i know when I put those poly bushing motor mount inserts in my chatter was significantly reduced on the 6 puck.

I know my stock one on my maxima chatters every once in a while but that's because it's on it's way out.

Every clutch can chatter, all i'm saying is that it is possible to get a setup that can hold decent power without chatter.

 

You have a clutch masters street disk aswell ?

I have polly mounts, im considering switching back to stock cause my chatter is so bad. Whole front end vibrates when you start from a dead stop.

The clutch only has about 500 miles on it right now.
Is it not broken it yet?

And it chattered bad from the minute I put it in and hasnt gotten any better.( s proper break in isnt the issue)

I have a 12lb fidanza im sure that is making it worse aswell.
Im sure stock fly would have alittle less chatter..

For regular driving, I'm sure. Unless you're gonna keep running it at the track. Power shifting and **** like that would destroy it in a hurry, but that won't do any good on a boosted maxima LOL. Spin till 5th gear if you did.

why would anyone aim for 450whp and do regular driving? HR Z's put down less than 250 wtq, so i doubt their clutch can handle anything remotely close to 350wtq.

 

I don't, my experience is on my turbo civic which both the 6 puck and the street disk setup are from LSD motorsports. 500 miles should be broken in by now, but a lot of that depends on driving style/clutch technique.

That's odd to me you're getting so much clutch chatter on a street disk. I've driven several different cars from mine which have excessively heavy duty clutches, one in which held 640whp on a 94 prelude... none of them had pucked clutches and none of them have had any chatter to speak of; however, they all were running stock flywheels too.

Maybe a broken spring? flywheel surface not flat/flush with the disk? I dunno man, seems odd to me.

I know switching to poly bushings helped keep the chatter down substantially when i ran my 6 puck.

You cant compare your clutch setup on a 2500lb civic to a heavy 4dr sedan.

Good to know about clutchmasters-- won't buy from them if I ever do work to the maxima.
