Its time for me to get a new battery for the time being i'm going with a interstate battery for right now. What do you guys use in your maxima's?

 

I just replaced the battery installed in 2003. Just got a good battery but went with a larger cranking capacity, $90. Well worth it.

 

What brand did you go with?

 

Interstate, branded for Nissan, bought at the dealership for $90.

The OEM was also an Interstate, and it lasted 7 to 8 years.

 

The Maxx Life battery from Walmart is what I got. No issues after 20,000 miles.

Optima Yellow Top, its overkill really but I bought when I as gonna put a stupid stereo in my car but then I changed my mind. Heheh. Red Top will do the trick.

 

I'm pretty sure everyone here knows that Johnson Controls is the maker of all the batteries that everyone has mentioned in this thread.

www.autobatteries.com Lists all the batteries made by Johnson Controls. Interstate is not mentioned, but it's also made by Johnson Controls.

The other battery manufacturers are Deka (East Penn Manufacturing) and Exide.

My Maxima came with a Kirkland (costco battery) that is about two years old. No issues.

Just get a battery with decent warranty, good CCA's, and the right size.

I just changed the battery on my Highlander. I went with an Autocraft Gold. Good warranty and decent price. I think they are running a sale that can save you $25 if you order it online and pick it up at the store.

Most of the batteries that we get from retail stores are all the same rebranded stuff. Just get one with a good price, warranty and CCA rating. Also try to look at the little date sticker on the battery just to make sure your not getting one that's been on the shelf for months.

Interstate would be my first choice; great batteries.

I just replaced my original oem battery around november.

I'm currently running a Duralast Gold battery; it's pretty good.

 

Interstate. Great battery, and they do a great job backing up their warranty, and the price is good. You do get what you pay for. I've never owned an Optima or gel-cell type battery, so I can't comment on that.

*EDIT* Don't worry about the CCA on the battery, I just noticed that you are in Tampa. The CCA rating (cold cranking amps) is the power rating that a NEW battery will have at zero degrees farenheit. You can save some money by getting the standard rating on the battery that is recommended for your car.

 

still on my oem going on 9 yrs now, cant really see it lasting much longer, will replace with an interstate..

 

I would recommend Kirkland or OEM.

 

The platinum is a rebranded Odyssey battery. I don't know who makes them, but I'm sure it's not Johnson Controls.

According to Consumer Reports, it's rated higher than the Optima. The warranty is better 4 year full replacement plus 100 months prorated.

I almost got a red top, but the warranty on them sucks now ... 3 years and nothing prorated.

I have a 7 red top in my subbie (non-dd) that shows no sign of dying. I bought it when they were still being made in the States and they weren't owned by Johnson Controls. The new ones are made in Mexico and some people claim that they don't last like they used to.

RED TOP Optima Battery is the way to go. my alternator belt came off and my car ran continuous for 2 days with that battery

How was that possible? Did you not turn anything on and took really short trips?

 

+1 for Duralast Gold....Had 1st one installed for over 8 yrs. and was still going strong but couldn't pass up opportunity to swap out for the same, but brand new 1...Never had any problems/issues with Interstate on last 2 vehicles either...OEM battery failed on my '05 Altima SE at 3.4yrs./55K--so far the replacement OEM Nissan battery still going strong 3yrs./50K later

 

Duralast Gold here too. Got the most CCA's I could get, and comes with excellent warranty. Cranks-over a smidge better than before.
This is my 3rd batt. including the OEM that lasted 5yrs.

Previous batt. was an Energizer I bought @ Pep-boys....lasted 5 years, in the Georgia Heat. Abt average, i'd say.

I've got an EverStart Maxx from Walmart. Had it for over 70,000 miles and still going.

 

Yep, old optima batteries were great. New ones suck. I have had at least 10 optima batteries over the years. The only thing about the platinum is that it weighs a freaking ton. Great warranty and service from any sears sold me on them. I have one in my 240sx, I don't need a new battery in the max yet but when the time comes that is what is going in.

 

Whatever you do, don't throw the old one out in the middle of the road...

Well, Original OEM alternator died a few days ago after 12 yrs. & 136K, the DLG battery held strong for 4 days w/o incident and then died more and more frequently (after I repeatedly charged it up, after car died) replaced the alternator, all was good for 2.5 days then car cranked slow and then left me stranded again. Alternator is OEM reman and I've tested it so pretty sure my failed alternator took the battery along with it. So anybody have any other battery info? Should I get another Duralast Gold or go Interstate's best? Or Diehard or Farm & Fleet Platinum or go OEM if I can get a decent price or?? 9 straight days of charging system issues has worn me out so let me know...

 

If you looking for an OEM replacement I think just about any higher quality battery will do; Gold, Interstate, whatever. If you looking to go above and beyond OEM I would recommend a Optima Yellow Top battery. I just have one and those things are GREAT!!

 

Yea, I'm looking to get best quality I can get for around $100 or so.

 

About 2 months ago was cleaning up the car, doors open, radio on. and when i got done, battery was dead, put my charger on it and it was good for a while, went to the Dr. today and come out to go and Dead Battery, Got AAA to jump me off and went to the dealer. This was a new 84 month battery about 1 yr old, and they did their thing to it an then replaced the Battery AGAIN. this it the 3rd battery in about 26 months, Talked to the Service Manager about it an he told me that these batteries are built by Interstate Batteries and that they replace them quite frequently, That they have been known to be bad off the Carriers that bring them from TN. These Batteries are really trash but if you get one to last more than 1 yr consider yourself lucky, As long as i have AAA and keep getting new batteries every couple of yrs, I guess i will just keep the Tech's busy changing batteries.

 

I went with a Duralast Platinum AGM, no gassing no corrsions, cuz i noticed a lot of interstate battery do gas a lot and leave that powdery crossive **** on your terminal especially the postive side, that why i went with AGM cuz there no gassing and it completely sealed battery.

I had to change the battery in my 2003 Maxima and I went with a Duralast too. Now, I'm once again having battery issues with my new Maxima.

I have an appointment tomorrow to get the foglight fixed and I called my service tech and left a voice mail telling him that I want to get the bigger battery. If they give me a hard time I'll just go buy one I know will work.

I generally try to get as many cranking amps as possible because I know these cars can suck down some juice. Being that I bought a certified car (on monday) I'm hoping they'll either give me a new battery or reduce the price.

 

DiE Hard....it's 19 degrees in NYC now and no problems whatsoever

 

 

same battery im getting when income taxes come in.
