Gutting your pre cats

Woops, meant to switch that around.
Great. Thanks for all of this.

My '97-Maxima-owning buddy has been running this "mod" for three years. After installation, he's been running on 14-year-old precats and a test pipe with no CELs stemming from precat efficiency or main catalytic converter efficiency.

It's a heck of a lot cheaper and easier to install those than a set of sims. Id rather drill an anti-fouler than splice into an 02 harness.

What I don't get is your picture shows one non fouler and the link everybody keeps pointing to it shows 2 of them stacked together with on drilled out. Also your pic shows one Sensor with the fouler but it goes on both of the secondary sensors correct? The location you show in your pic and the other just after the front manifold cat correct?

No you don't stack them together you use two drilled 18mm anti-foulers the one i showed in the pic and the second one goes into the 02 thats directly above that one on the Y pipe. It was too hard to get a good pic of the other fouler after i installed it otherwise i would have posted a pic.

Car sounds wonderfull after gutting those cats! But my heat shield took some colateral damage in the process. I ended up breaking 2 of the 3 bolts on the front heat shield. Is thrre any way to remedy this situation as that one bolt isnt really holding it all that well

I suppose if it really concerns you, then figure out a way to put header-wrap around the precat after removing the shield.

You are needlessly obsessing over this. However, when it comes to obsession, you're in good company here, so don't feel bad.

The o2 wires are stainless steel. Rochester is right, just make sure they aren't actually touching the manifold. Here is a picture of my setup. I have headers and used two antifoulers to extend just a little more and after 160 miles no cel. By the way wire loom and zip ties are your friends.
