Loud Whining, Anyone?

Here we go again. 01 Nissan Max SE Auto, 111,000 miles, owned 10 months.
New IACV and TPS. New front struts and strut bearings, new wheel bearing and hub on driver's side.
Today, drove through lots of high water, not much choice. After several hours, went out to pick up my son at camp. Started car, it made a horribly loud whining sound coming from engine area. Doesn't go away. Seems to be running ok, idling a bit high around 900RPMS in park. Been doing that since the IACV and TPS changed about 4 weeks ago, drops to the correct idle when you put her in gear though. Anyway, the noise is just a steady whine, loud and embarassing and obviously something amiss. When turning, it always made a humming noise, it's almost like the same humming, but it's a whole lot louder now, and does it at idle, does it in drive, does it in reverse, does it the whole time the car is on. Seems to follow the idle of the car, step on the gas, it winds up more, let go, it's still there. Belt? Pump? Which? Any ideas before I have to take it to a mechanic? Not ONE mechanic in this town that I can trust to not try to rip me off. Can't even walk in the door without them wanting to keep my car for 3 days and talk about I could be looking at 3 thousand dollars. Done put a thousand in parts alone in the parts alone just this month. Not interested really in rebuilding this thing anymore, every time I turn around, it's broken again. It's my only vehicle. Can't even trade this thing in for anything, not when it's broken all the time. Oh, and no SES light this time. Sorry guys, loved the car, honest, I wanted to rebuild her and make her pretty, but I needed her to run meanwhile and I have put a lot in there for what seems like nothing. She's like a freakin money pit Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Anyone want her, and live near Alabama, come get her so I can buy something else I dont have to work on every day, please?? I'm sure someone that knows how to fix her, will have a grand old time, but it's just me most of the time, and I have no idea how to work on cars and can't have her down 3 weeks until hubby comes home. But I have to fix whatever this noise is, cuz I have to get kids from point A to point B and school is getting ready to start up here again, for my daughter, it already has. Not sure what I'm gonna do tomorrow morning. HELP?? Thanks! Pamela

Sounds like your power steering belt is slipping...probably due to the water you went through and or old origional belt...When you turn the wheel does the noise get louder? I would def. check out my belts and see if their worn or what not, maybe go to one of the nearest auto parts stores and get a can of belt dressing and spray it on your belts, if the sound goes away or lessens then its a belt issue...

Whining you say?!

I'm sorry, the temptation was Huge... LOL!

Ok, being serious your drive belts just become wet and the "protective" layer of dirt, oil and God know what else was just cleaned with the water and it will be noisy for days and maybe weeks. That just happens to me every rain season, the cure it's simple: go to your autoparts store and bought some drive band liquid (Gunk made one) and spray your drive belts with it... At the first minutes the belts will whine like "pigs in the slaughter house", drive your car a few miles enjoying your favorite music, and they will become more and more quiet in the next 2 to 4 days until the whine dissapear.

Check your belts first then check your power steering fluid.stop at a auto parts store pick up a can of belt dressing and give it a spray while its running aim the spray down at the crank pulley see if that fixes it.you may have got your alt extra wet inside i have seen that cause some noise too if thats the case it will dry up.

I hope you guys are right, I mean, I know u know what you're talking about cuz I read this stuff all day long, LOL! I just mean, I hope it's just belts, cuz I can replace those every day all day and be ok about it. Well, maybe not, but u know what I mean. I was told a few hours ago that my transmission might be shot?? See, the sound is more of a loud humming, not a normal belt pig squeal. I'm still thinking power steering area cuz it made noise before on steering, just not this loud and not all the time, only when turning the wheel. Now, it's constant. But it did not do this until today after I drove all through a bunch of water. Hubby comes tomorrow sometime. I just dont want the car to break down on me, I have to take my daughter to band at 8AM and not really in the mood to be stuck anywhere and having that car towed back home. Right now is a bad time for anything major to be wrong, cuz he drives an 18 wheeler and the freakin fuel pump just went on that yesterday, so he's leaking fuel, and we're looking at like 600 bucks for this deal. Just two weeks ago, it was turbo. If all I need are new belts, I will replace them ALL if that will make this poor car happy. I'm sure they are original. I dont think ANYTHING was ever fixed, changed, replaced, tightened, lubed, nothing, ever on this car. Why people treat their car that way is beyond me. I guess for some people, cars are disposable. I dont want a car payment, so I just buy what I can, and this is what I could buy. Anyway, Thanks Y'all! Will let you know if it's not a belt issue :-)
