Which CPS?

I was driving home from my mechanic this morning and suddenly the engine stumbled pretty severely and my Tachometer suddenly stopped working. Pulled the code when I got home and found it to be p0335 which according to my scanner is Crank Position Sensor A. So being that there are two sensors on the car for the crank position, which one is A? I need to order the right part.

There's only 1 crank sensor. You might be confused with the cam sensor. Similar codes (0345 cam, 0335 crank).

The sensor you are interested in is the CKP POS sensor. This one is easiest accessed from under the car near the oil pan, sort of in the region of the oil cooler lines.

The FSM doesn't have that great of pics, but it's kind of helpful.

I think it's closer to the front (passenger side) of the engine, around the crank pulley area.

in this picture it looks like its the drivers side of the engine cross beam, right hand pic item #2

if you follow this harness it leads to something just under the starter

this pic looks like the drivers side of the crossbeam as well. Also where it says "front" looks like the bolts which hold the electric motor mount to the crossbeam, and the pan to the left looks like the auto trans fluid pan.

So I think I found it for now. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and my tach is working again.

The 5th gen has 2 CPS one at the passenger side and one at the drivers side both on the oil pan. I remember seeing that from some time back so it had me confused.

Yes, just like the 4th gen (REF & POS), but the 5.5 gen only has 1 (POS), no matter the tranny type.
