How many mods do you have already? Alot of people here on the Org tend to go with 3 inch exhaust for maximum performance, but it will be louder. Megan makes a nice 2.5 inch exhaust. BRM also makes affordable exhaust in either stainless or aluminized steel. BRM has options to choose from, such as 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust if you want more performance, and different resonator lengths, and single or dual tips. Also look on You Tube for various exhaust videos. It can give you a general idea as far as the tone and sound level, but IMO it's still not the same as hearing an exhaust in person.

How much are you willing to spend, then that will tell you Cattman, BRM, or Megan Racing all sound good, none are ricer little fart cannons...

Its either a 3" exhaust or a stock exhaust, your not bolting them together.

If you a baller on a budger the brm or megan are good.

If you want to squeeze out every Hp possibe the 3" will help. But unless your boosted or have every other bolt on possible with a good tune you'll just be waisting your money.

I have a obx headers, megan muffler with ebay piping and a magnaflow resonator.

Ok, sorry, just trying to understand all of this. So if I go 3"; everything from headers back needs to be 3". However, if I just get a 2.5" Megan axleback, I can simply replace the stock axleback with the Megan without any modifications correct?

All the Megan's I've seen for sale have been cat-back, not axle-back.

As long as the flanges match, you can put a 3", 2.5" or 2.25"

Wouldn't you need some sort of step or reducer to smoothly transition the exhaust flow from one pipe size to another? If not, I'm sure that would cause alot of turbulence which would create backpressure.

I was thinking that lol, I don't know much about exhaust other than it going from the front of the car to the back . But I'm pretty sure I've seen the 3" Cattman catback bolt up to a stock cat, I might be wrong.

If I were to run a 3'' Cattman, I wouldn't bolt it up to the factory cat, that's for sure. I'd pony up a few bucks more and get a high flow cat or a test pipe to take full advantage of running an exhaust like that.

Someone should post a pic of a factory VQ exhaust from manifolds to muffler, that would reduce the confusion.. I thought there were two precats off each manifold, wouldn't u need two test pipes? Alot of precat gutting goin on lately, y not just get a test pipe?

The test pipe would replace the main cat. A fed spec Y-pipe (not cali) for my 2000 would replace both pre-cats. Or if you got headers, both pre-cats would be gone since the main cat would bolt up to the header collector. There are some pics floating around of before and after installs on a few threads.

Simple answer? It'll probably cost you less(time and money) to buy and install headers then it would be to custom fit test pipes where the precats are. You'll know what I mean once you see the precats. This thread is specifically for the 5.5

I currently have a Megan Racing OE-RS catback, which I like a lot. Looks good, sounds great. If it is still too expensive for you, you could always pick up a used one.

On an unrelated note, I will be selling mine in the beginning of December after I install my Cattman 3".

I'm very happy with the "SRS Type-RE" catback. See this post http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...ml#post8249660

A high flow cat will give a n/a car the same power as a test pipe . I dynoed my cts-v after pulling off the high flow cats and the numbers where identical .

I know the smell doesn't bother others but mine would make my house smell a little since my garage is below. Plus idling at a light it smells sometimes aswell...
