Opinions on eBay halogen hid bulbs
Alright so while perusing eBay, I saw a set of halogen h4/9003 bulbs. They say that they are hid xenon filled. So what is everyones opinion on them? Does anyone currently use them, or have you used them in the past? I am aware that the only way to get the full "hid" experience Is to swap over to real hid projectors. but I'm not looking to do that right now. So my main concerns with these are first of all, are they safe to use? Will they burn my harnesses or melt the housings? Secondly what is the life expectancy of these bulbs? I've heard that this style only lasts
about six months. And thirdly, it says on eBay that
they are not dot approved, so will I be getting pulled
over left and right because of these?
eBay item number is:400228858597
Any help and suggestions appreciated!!

If you are talking about the blue coated bulbs, I say don't waste your money. They will be dimmer than any regular halogen bulb out there of the same wattage. They will be safe as long as you run bulbs that use the stock wattage, and not the 100Watt bulbs. 100Watt bulbs will run a higher risk of burning your wiring(because of the higher current draw), and could damage the chrome reflector in the headlights(because of heat). They will not last as long as a non-coated bulb either, in my experience(6 months sounds about right, possibly even less). you run the risk of being pulled over if they are really blue(obvious they aren't anywhere close to being stock).

I went back to check the listing and couldn't find it, but I'm pretty sure they are filled with xenon gas......just like the new sylvania zxr (or we they are called) ones. Anyone ever used gas filled ones? Good reminder on the wattage, I don't think it is listed on the listing.

Yup don't waste ur time on these eBay bulbs. They won't be bright at all but if u really really don't want to get HID kits and want to stick to halogen bulbs, u can buy mines. I have a set of like new PIAA GTX bulbs and a set of PIAA super plasma bulbs. At least these are PIAA bulbs which is a reputable company. My suggestion is to get an HID kit but if ur interested in bulbs still PM me about these PIAA ones.

Hmmm... No I haven't read that. So, against my wallets opinion, what hid kit do you guys recommend?? I'm looking for good quality and a good price (thats not a joke, but I laughed as I typed it!!). They will still fit in my standard gaslight housings right? (god I'm sure that there are already a billion of threads like this, but this wasn't my original intention for a topic).

ddmtuning kits(if they are still selling them) are good quality, at a good price, with lifetime warranty. they will be plug&play, and while you are at it, get an HID harness for them as well.

So Which kit do you have? They do still sell them, and the prices aren't to bad. I saw two kits on for $35 and one for 45. what brightness do you recommend?? I didn't see any harnesses but is that really neccesary?

The truth is, they re-lable 4300k or 6000k bulbs. This 5000k thing came about because new OEM's are using 5000k, so that is what a lot of buyers are wanting now-a-days. The aftermarket suppliers aren't going to make a bulb that is 700k higher to appease this, they just cheat
So, NEVER buy 5000k bulbs, you don't know what you're getting, CHOOSE either 4300 or 6000, then you know which one you're getting.

in my 5th gen retrofitted headlights I have 55 watt ddmtuning HID's with AMP to D2S connector, OEM phillips bulbs, and a wiring harness. They have lasted me over 2 years no problems.

FYI, aftermarket HID manufacturers like DDM, etc, don't make 5000k bulbs.
