Advice on a drone-free exhaust setup.

Hopefully this thread turns out better than my last one...here it goes.

I want more sound out of my exhaust, but i do a lot of highway driving to get to school, work, and otherwise. Therefore something like a 3 inch catback with headers would sound awesome when driving on a local road, the highway drone would irrate the life out of me.

So im looking for an exhaust setup with a bit of a deeper growl, without drone (reasonably speaking), and for a good price. I dont have the money for something like a brand new 3 inch cattman, so please don't suggest items in that price range. Also any power i can gain in the process is welcomed but its not my main goal. So far i've been looking for an axle back/rear section to start.

Any advice? Suggestions?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, or its a noob question.

Thanks guys

Cattman B-Pipe and stock muffler. I have no cat, Cattman B pipe and Stillen rear and it sounds lumpy at idle and perfect. No DRONE at all at any rpm. Although test pipe is a resonated Megan so that also helps.

I feel your pain, I want 3" exhaust but scared of the drone. Maybe just do test pipe and bpipe, and keep factory muff. (Route, I might go) Coudn't tell from your post if you have header or are thinking about it. If you don't, I would get header before exhaust if you are looking for gains.

The drone isn't that bad, Kev.

I would agree that Headers, Cattman 2.5" Bpipe and the stock rearmuffler is a combo that is hard to beat.....Awesome response, the throttle tip-in and throttle lift have a V8 like gurgle...I have a 3" Cattman and there's a little bit of drone at low speeds and tipping into the throttle it's gas velocity isn't quite as high @ low in city street speeds on an A/T equipped Maxima....I truly believe the best solution for this would've have been offering a tour muffler (quieter) and a sport muffler (more audible)....I will be purchasing a Borla 3" inlet/dual 2.25" outlets and having it fabbed to fit the slip joint of the Cattman 3"....The Borla muffler splits into twin perforated tubes @ the front of the muffler instead of the rear.....I believe the twin perforated tubes will offer a smoother sound drone free option....I found that when I manually shift my A/T it's virtually drone free cause I can control the shift points.....Don't get me wrong I love my 3" Cattman especially when stepping into it on the freeway it gives such a refined sound, I just wish I could reduce the volume/drone @ slow 30-50 mph traffic speeds.....

I have the factory exhaust with the resonator deleted. It did add a nice tone to the exhaust without it being loud. There is a slight hint of drone around the 2-2,400 rpm range, but it's almost unnoticeable unless you have a window down and the radio off or at a very low volume.

a good resonator and those mufflers with the flap inside them that closes. Not sure if it helps drone at all. When it's hot outside, you'll hate the drone. I'd say when it's over low 90's the drone goes up considerably.

Leave headers out of the equation and it will be fine with most any set-ups out there.

Agreed had the Fastcat and 3'' Cattman Exhaust drone on highway, nothing major usually stayed out of the zone anyway, but wife is very picky and she didnt complain about it when driving the car so I know it was minor, but when the Headers arrive, who knows....
