ECU Swap

Hey guys, If I swap my ECU what else is involved besides the physical labor of the swap? Do I have to reprogram my key? Or is that info in the SECU?

...that sucks.

What do people usually do in these situations? Tow your car to the dealer?

I'm going to unbolt it from the car, and leave the panel off and go to work with the ECU sitting on the floor but connected to the cable. Then I'll drive to the stealership. When I get to the parking lot, I'll unplug the battery and disconnect the ECU. Connect the new one and get them to program the key. I'll reinstall it properly when I get home

I actually drove my car to the dealer, parked it in the rear, and then left it there for a week. Yes, I tod them ahead of time what I was doing, but I even borrowed a rachet from the head service guy to remove the ECU. They were pretty cool about it.

And were pretty complimentary about the car once they worked on it/reprogrammed NATS.

Just out of curiosity: why would you swap the ECU if it still operates?

I'd think that if the ECU were bad you couldn't run the engine at all so you couldn't drive it down to the dealer...
