Car went into LIMP mode right off the exit !

Today i was driving my car earlier around in the day, and saw whenever i started the car up, the battery light kept coming on, but when i revved the engine, light went away.

I also noticed that the instrument lighting was dim, and when revved, brightened up. My battery was replace 6 months ago, and my HID went out 2 days ago.

The limp mode scared me, because i have never had it happen to me. When i shut the car off, and try to start it back up, it would flicker, and not start, just like if the battery was dead. I am thinking the alternator is going out. I am going to have it tested tomorrow.

Also, the only other electrical mod i have are LED lights in the back, and 4 resistors.

Car was not going past 20 MPH, at all.

sounds similar to what happened to mine yesterday , although my lights came on and everything but it would not go fast either. Its like the car was suffocating.

Same thing happened to me it was the alternator, was doing fine on the freeway but when exited and went to Jack in the Crack my car wouldn't go past like 5mphWTF had to get towed since there was now way I could cross this busy 4 lane street going that slow......

Haha no joke, my alternator went out with no warning. I pulled into the gas station to fill up and when i went to leave the car barely started. I just thought i didnt put my clutch all the way in when i turned my key. I start driving down the road and everything just went dim inside the car and the RPM gauge kept jumping around. I floored the car to try to get it going (since i was in the middle of a busy intersection) and that only made it die.

But anyway sounds like your alternator is gone.

Are you talking about actual limp mode where the car will not rev over 2400rpms or just that there wasn't enough juice in the battery (due to the alternator not charging) for the car to accelerate at all? I ask because both have happened to me on separate instances in the past couple months, "Limp" mode was due to a bad MAF sensor and as you would guess a bad alternator was the culprit when the car would not accelerate at all.

re

Started car up today, fine, started driving, 5 minutes later...radio starts shutting off..car slows down...and bleh.

Jump started it, drove fine for 2 seconds, and then started doing the whole limping thing....then i decided to throw it in neutral and rev up to 4-5k...which it did, and then it brought some life back into it, and drove ok till i got home.

Shut the car off, never started again. Getting a new alternator tomorrow. Im thinking about going with Autozone, used their alternators in the past, and have worked out real well for our 86 hardbody.

Definitely isn't Limp mode then and is for sure the alternator. Make sure the battery is OK too. Autozone "Duralast" alt is fine however the removal & replacement is a pain, good luck.

I realized that the alternator would be a b$tch....took it to shop. 230 including labor/part. Part was obtained from Advance even though i hate em....and this alternator is PRETTY big compared to your normal honda accord one...

Battery is probably shot too.

Dunno about your neck 'o the woods, but when I have had alternator or starter issues in the past (on different cars) I take them to a local electrical shop in town who rebuilds the existing one for anywhere from $60-$120, labor included. I have never had something fail after they rebuilt it.

...just so you can explore options.

re

There is a place in charlotte i had heard about, but i looked at convenience as this will be done by tonight. I can go pick the car up today. The place in Charlotte that does rebuild, but that was across the city, would have taken more than a day etc.

i dont know why , but usually when you have to replace a battery in a max the alternator follows.
